This is a rough one because there’s so much entitlement that’s buried deep in cultural assumptions that most people don’t even consider to be worth examining.
Here’s my shot at it: the unexamined expectation that women will absorb inconvenience—e.g. emotional, cognitive, and domestic labor—so men don’t have to.
It means women have to be ready to decode, manage, and soothe male emotions. It means women have to remember anniversaries, birthdays, plan celebrations and such. It means women work full time jobs and do the cleaning and laundry and such.
A close second would be the entitlement to be heard. Women will listen politely and attentively before being allowed to speak, and if at any point a man speaks, women are to shut up and listen again. You can see this dynamic in this very group with the number of people who can’t read some perfectly clear text:
Women only…
This is me predicting we’re going to get a lot of that in this thread.
The entitlement to be heard is so unbelievably frustrating. Try tell them that though and they’ll never shut up defending themselves and telling you how you’re wrong because … blah blah blah
The proof of which can be found in the mod log for this very group, yes.
Incredibly frustrating.
I just scrolled through the mod log (for a reminder of why rule #1 exists) and I stumbled over this:
Reason: Man who requested banning.
A man thought he was entitled to women doing the work to ban him from the community because he lacked the self-control to not comment in it.
Think about that for a second.
Women have to be this man’s self-control because he can’t do either of:
- exercising self-control and not posting
- doing the simple task of blocking the group himself
THIS is male entitlement in a nutshell.
A man thought he was entitled to women doing the work to ban him from the community because he lacked the self-control to not comment in it.
Wanker is too lazy to hit the block option.
Moment I came out as trans, people in public chats I was in started thinking they had the right to just start talking about what was in my pants.
Just suddenly becoming some sort of sex object for people was annoying as hell. People rarely said that to me as a man, and yet suddenly it’s as casual for people to talk about it as it is for them to ask who’s on the other end of a phone call.
It’s absurdly common, and I hate that I’m just some fetish to men even when I’m not into them.
Yeah, welcome to my world. Here’s a consoling hug.
I’ve been flatly told by men who somehow thought it was a compliment that “I’m their sexual fetish” (by which they meant “Asian” women).
Not. Just. Online.
It’s repulsive and nobody should have to go through that at all, not to mention someone who’s had the added issues that being trans brings to the table in today’s society.
Gaining misogyny perks over night has got to be insane, I can’t imagine.
The casual assumption that the woman will take care of things.
Being entitled to go to whatever lengths, cross whatever boundaries to save face sure is one that’s been coming up a lot lately…
Unfortunately, I don’t just mean in this community, ugh.
That they are the default. Chairs, cars, tools, medicine, everything is designed for men and with men’s bodies in mind.
Space and comfort. To both take up space and feel comfortable, to have space that revolves around them, to have their discomfort taken care of, be given the space to expand into and dominate, to have their whim catered to, their latest emotion handled, etc.
The perceived entitlement to a partner. You’re not owed sex or a wife. Entitlement over the agency of others.
To be heard without listening to us themselves
The tendency to interpret any attempt to better women’s station as a slight against men
To be fair, that’s not a man thing, that’s a privilege thing.
The subject of discussion male privilege.
Have you read the rules of this community?
deleted by creator
I have, yes. Which rule exactly do you want to draw my attention to?
The one about how it’s a women’s community. I’m checking because it’s usually men who are dismissive of others opinions in here.
Nope, I’m a woman. I also wasn’t being dismissive of the original commentor’s opinion - I didn’t say men don’t do that, just that it’s a general issue with privilege. Feel free to have an actual conversation instead of simply attacking me.
I didn’t attack you, I criticized your response. Now ask yourself why that makes you feel personally attacked.
😂😂 You didn’t criticise my response - you asked whether I had read the rules and accused me of being a man. But whatever, have a nice life ✌️
I think that’s true of all the comments on here
That’s fair.
There are a few male behaviours though that seem very rooted in gender roles - like expecting household management and emotional labour - so I guess they feel more specifically patriarchal to me 🤷♀️
Harassing any woman who uses the voice comms.
Demanding every sacrifice while offering nothing in return.
The increased aggression towards a woman who speaks up.
The +40% pink tax.
