i think !yptb community fit that idea.
Honnestly, no. Rimu sumed up.
I prefer staying always from people. We have already a difficult job to do that exposes us to public and can quickly evolve to harrassement with death threat if we don’t thread it with care. It’s exausting. Whatever we were right or not.
So you can comment or vote in your space. We have our too.
And, lastly, i forgot. being popular ? I don’t do it for popularity, i do it for creating a safe space for everyone.
I think you’re misunderstanding the mentality of the kind of sick twisted person who is willing to do the work of moderating a fediverse instance.
They’re not in it because they care about being popular.
Haha that’d just add another layer of drama. Like a fractal. How about turn the modlog into a community so people can vote AND comment on each action? Then modlog on the modlog. Yo dawg, I heard you like modlogs.jpg
I can’t wait to be banned from an instance for downvoting the moderation choices that instance makes. Think of the brigading opportunities. All the new and fun ways to make a thankless job even more miserable.
Also the whole point of moderating is to be unpopular and exclusive, otherwise every community would turn into the generic slop that is, well, r/popular.
It’s not a popularity contest, that’s for sure.
On that note a community dedicated to voting and commenting on modlog actions actually seems like it could be popular, entertaining and engaging.
There already is one on db0 and it’s basically just a vehicle for coordinated harassment.

Fun fact if you criticize the mods of the community on that community you pick up a lifetime ban.
Thin skinned snowflakes.
Lol yeah they definitely attract a certain type of person my instance actually defederated and it’s been a noticable improvement.
From the community or dbzer0?
From the instance. They seem to be the instance that people who get banned from other instances end up on. Nothing wrong with that but I’m glad not to have to deal with them.
Interesting.
I’ve been debating adding them to my instance block list but that’s mostly because I have a problem with the admin there.
Enhancement idea met with sarcastic remark from developer.
At least some things will always remain the same
A certain amount of drama makes social media more engaging and having positive and negative feedback for actions is usually healthy.
We sorta have those. Though admins are the only ones allowed to vote and it is binary remove vs. retain the mod 😜.
On a more serious note, this sounds like something vulnerable to vote manipulation. Then again, so too is democracy I suppose, so that’s not a firm reason not to?
If someone removes a comment the community could upvote or downvote the action and let the mod know if they action was popular with the community or not.
I think it could be healthy feedback.
I think that “vote manipulation” comment was insinuating that people could do things like using a horde of alts to influence a mod and convince them that removing that comment was a bad move. One user could hypothetically make it seem like much of the community disliked a mod action when in reality it is just that one user maliciously protesting.
