Have you tried a USB C to headphone adapter? They’re quite small and never have to leave your headphones. And you could set the phone on a wireless charger to charge and listen simultaneously. Would that be an option for you?

it’s not that much a minority as you’d think. just like desktop computers largely still use wires to connect mouse and keyboard, people want to have wired devices.
Them and the “make it smaller crowd” too. A very small, very loud minority that fails to actually show up when such a product is released.
When it comes to phone size that is not a main issue for me. The problem is UI that forces me to tap the top left corner to go back.
That’s because “make it affordable” is also an implicit ask with any sort of alike economy. And these companies are failing at hearing it.

I assume you mean a 3a, I don’t believe the 3 still had a headphone jack. I held on to my 4a for as long as I could, but after their battery shenanigans it only lasted a few hours is very light use.
A phone repair shop could pop in a new battery. It wouldn’t be secure to use on the internet, but it’d be a good mp3 player :)
Due to not being able to get a graphene compatible phone with a headphone jack, I’ve been just using a DAP for the past year or so. It sucks needing to carry around a second device. If I hadn’t already gone this route it would have been an option and I could have just used a rom that let me switch off the radios.

It’s not a privacy based phone. It’s a phone they’re hoping to sell to mass market consumers that so happens to be about to run a privacy based OS.
You are not the target audience and will continue to not be unless people like you become the dominant consumer of such a device. The problem is the people who enjoy this community, by and large, own a pixel 3 and won’t purchase anything unless it’s got every feature they want.
Even more unfortunately is those features only end up on cheap phones because manufacturers correlated them with poor people. Need a headphone jack? Must be too poor to afford Bluetooth headphones. Need an sd card slot? Must be too poor to afford a cloud subscription or bigger phone. Need a removable battery or to repair your device? You obviously can’t afford to buy a new phone every 2 years.
The bottom line is you are all too sensible to spend the money and influence design decisions so this is what you get.
how many people really care about their privacy? even if it’s 0.1% of population, that immediately gives 700k customers in EU and USA alone.

Graphene picked an OEM who were willing to work with them and a device with the right CPU to support the hardware security features.

also i’m torn about SD cards. they sound good but also are a security hazard. anybody can pull them out and read them, right? for a portable device, i really doubt that that’s good-enough.
Nope, you can encrypt them. It is a default android option.
The iPhone is a better device for you. You’ll never be able to get the most out of a graphene phone.
If Graphene would run on the iPhone it would be my first choice. But my privacy is more important than sexy hardware. It would have the added benefit of blending in, law enforcement is already targeting Pixel phones. That wouldn’t be practical with iPhone.
Still no SD cards though… but not even the Pixel does that
This is awesome; first non-google phone supported. It us a bit on the expensive side for me, but a good step in the right direction.
Hopefully they will be able to get Motorola/Qualcomm to have the required security features on a lower end SoC and hence phone.

Apparently it is to use cloud services 😉 pixel phone storage was incredibly small. At least this phone has up to 512GB internal storage allegedly. For a ridicous price I assume.

Expandable storage is for photos, videos, music, books, etc… not for “important data.” Pixels made their storage tiny specifically to push users to use Google Drive, Google Photos (pushing the “clean your device” store everything in the cloud BS), YouTube Music, etc…
A vast majority of people also use their phone as an MP3 player and camera and apps, not just a chat device. My music library is not crazy and would not fit on a pixel together with my photos/videos, for example.

i mean you could technically use an encrypted file system on them … but that’s probably not compatible with the vast majority of card-reader programs out there so people are gonna complain next that you can’t look at your SD card photos from a desktop computer …
Granted, I would only keep a large collection of music on such a card. Wouldn’t care if someone removed the card and went through that.

I think people going for this hardware + OS are more of a function over form crowd.
90W charging, huge storage option, high quality cameras (I already have a billion lenses on the back of my phone so I just don’t give a shit), great screen - yeah I don’t care how the thing looks. I care about GrapheneOS support and that it has the hardware to keep it usable for more than a couple of years.
Right now its between this and a flip phone + umpc for me. We’ll see where things go in the coming months.
Personally, I think it’s better than the Samsung Galaxy Ultra series because, on those phones, the camera island goes down the phone, not across it, making magnetic accessories cumbersome to fit on at times.
The Motorola also looks like it doesn’t have a camera island, just protruding cameras. I can’t be sure though.
Always with the perfectionism with better alternatives.

The phone looks ok, but I’m most disappointed that the price will likely be $1000+. What’s the runner up OS for the midrange? Running GOS on pixel 8 since launch and looking to move in the next ~2 yrs
RAM prices have made it impossible for mid range phones to get the same profit margins they had before. Get a 2nd hand Pixel before they go up even more
