White Nationalists #nazis showed up in Kamloops today to protest ahead of Truth and Reconciliation Day.
While I dislike what those individuals stand for, their attitude and their ignorance, I do not think violence towards them will change things for better but rather aggravate things.
One has to look at the root of the problem. Why are they angry etc.? Fact that we have vast economic disparity within our society breeds this kind of behavior. When resources are plenty and everyone gets their fair share and doesn’t need to live loan-to-loan people don’t usually care about exclusion of others (well, there are always zealots with loose screws) and those movements to not gain traction. Look at fascism in last century: it has risen on the back of economic collapse of society when it became easy to accept “you can’t eat because he took your food” kind of messaging.
Bottom line to stamp out those thugs we need to change our society drastically with a sharp turn left but we’re keep on veering to the right with each election, which will end up in violence one way or another. Someone however has to be focused on the target though: political and economic system in Canada is broken and needs to be rebuilt, until then we will be miserable and thugs will proliferate

The Big Three news outlets in Canada pretty much ignored this story until the Kamloops local paper and social media picked it up. Now they’re all over it, pretending they were there first.
And they’re all missing the crucial point.
Second Sons are working very hard to stick to the rule of law, while instilling fear. They’re showing up in groups like this in smaller communities. They’re not in Calgary or Toronto or Vancouver, they’re north of Edmonton, or Orillia or Millarville.
They show up, dress to intimidate, act to intimidate, but don’t actually threaten. They post overt dogwhistle slogans, “Je me souviens d’un Quebec blanc” or “Indian trucks kill canucks”) which they could plausibly explain away as something else, if forced to stand on trial.
They’re getting bolder, which means they’re going to try to goad their victims into acting. They’ll obey the RCMP or local police (if the force is sufficient) without hesitation because as long as they keep showing up, as long as they keep scaring people, as long as they are able to avoid consequences for their actions, they’ll be able to hurt some people and recruit others.
They need to be driven out by the people every time they show their…well not faces, but cowardly masks. They need to be not shot or injured, but maybe detained until the police can unmask and identify them by name.
We need to publish their names. We need (and I can’t believe I would ever say this) to doxx them - to make them fear for their lives if they keep threatening society.
We need to break the back of their movement, and the media isn’t helping one goddamn bit.
I hope the RCMP takes this seriously but knowing cops makes me think they’re more apt to protect the fascists from anyone who tries to interfere with their intimidation tactics. I sincerely hope I’m wrong though, this shit is pathetic and needs to stop.

You start with education. It’s not enough to just negate something (“racism bad”) you gotta replace it with a different idea. Otherwise it just sprouts back up. You would not believe the number of well meaning teenagers who’ve told me eugenics is actually a good idea if we could just do selective breeding programmes without the racism.
I do agree it starts with education, but I think we need to tackle more of a fundamental element of teaching people how to be a reasonable human that isn’t so easily jerked around by their base emotions. Otherwise stupid ideas will still reach and resonate with stupid people and the danger of creating a moron is still high.

Somebody replied with what happened already, so I will add that this day (Sept 30th) is Canada acknowledging the crimes of the government and church with Truth and hopefully Reconciliation of those events with the Indigenous people…
But heres the Truth: Our government didn’t make it a federal holiday, so only some provinces treat it as a holiday where you can go and watch an indigenous celebration. When it was instituted our Premier (Trudeau) was in British Columbia on the Holiday and rather than meet with the Indigenous leaders at a celebration, he went to his island home to chill out. To me this showed exactly how much Canada cared about Reconciliation.
Also, the church still refuses to admit they did anything wrong, and in Ontario, half our schools are run by the same cult of pedophilic sex offenders.

Well there is progress but the RCMP still treat the Indigenous like dogs in many places. Thy would drive walk drunken indigenous out of town to a snowy area to sober up and leave them there. Many froze to death.
