They took their shot, and missed. To try to execute her again would be Cruel & Unusual. You don’t have to let her out, but her sentence should be commuted to life in prison without parole.
Okay that killing sounds brutal as fuck, but also she was a mentally ill kid. Capital punishment is wrong, but not every case is a hill I’ll die on, you know?
But there is not even a semblance of justice here.
At 18, she brutally murdered a classmate and coreobated reports had her bragging about the murder before and after it occurred. That is not a mental health episode. That is real evil.
Just because you have trauma, you don’t get a free pass to murder/mutilate your classmates.
No one said “free pass to murder.” Whether you agree that her family and society failed her or not, the idea that governments get to kill people is insanely dangerous.
And what is “coreobated?”
Sorry, corroborated!
Still on the fence about the death penalty, it’s a coin flip to me if it’s worse to spend your life in prison or take a quicker way out. She probably was failed to some degree, but that still isn’t an excuse for murder. Life in prison at a minimum.
No one deserves life in our current prison system.
I agree that there are people that need to be separated from society at least temporarily. We just need a better system before I’ll condemn anyone to it.
Our system is broken beyond belief for sure, but murder is something that puts you away for a long long time regardless what country you get convicted in, and rightfully so.
Not executing her isn’t a “pass”. She has been in prison 30 of her 50 years. I’m not even saying her debt is paid. I’m just saying she absolutely should not be executed.
I mean, 30 years in prison and a botched execution, it doesn’t sound like she got a free pass at all. I’m sure she can be released on parole at this point, I mean, surely the US prison system has rehabilitated her by now… /s (sadly)
holy shit you’d think after the first one she’d have served her sentence. Or did she get multiple life sentences?
Become ungovernable.
Also, the lethal injection is no less cruel or painful than other forms of execution.
Also, the lethal injection is no less cruel or painful than other forms of execution.
It is actually more inhumane - since it’s formulated in a way to provide extreme pain. A simple chop to the head is more humane than that injection.
not humane for the beheader though.
I don’t know, the Head Ripping Off Machine Ohio switched to seems pretty humane.
Sounds like she served her sentence, let her go
and then try to kill her twice.
It’d suck to be her, dumped to live out the remaining few decades of her life on the lowest tier of the American underclass.
A quick and merciful death would be more humane, but the state has been proven incapable of properly handling their monopoly on violence so what are you going to do?
Hopefully one day the Third World will end this barberous practice and join the international rules-based order.
I honestly believe if it’s gotten to the point that you’re willing to commit a murderous act, the death penalty would have never been a deterrant. Make murderers pay for their crimes through a lifetime of slave labor authorized by the 13th amendment.
I’m … not touching your second point, but on the first: it’s even worse than that. “In for a penny, in for a pound”.
Why would anyone who committed a murder surrender if they know they’re going to die anyway? Especially when dying in a shootout looks better than “botched execution”. How many of these crimes are already committed by someone that only cares about themselves and hates the people around them? What’s their incentive to stop?
The death penalty seems to me like a great way to turn a murder into something worse.
