Dan Levy criticized Shane Gillis’ ‘SNL’ monologue, expressing disbelief that such content could exist on live national television.

The Schitt’s Creek star posted an Instagram reel Sunday night, slamming Gillis. It opens with him saying “Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists. There’s a difference there. By the way, I’ve seen more men’s nipples at the gym than I’ve ever seen women showing their bodies off.”

Levy was responding to the portion of Gillis’ monologue in which he said “I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now. Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe [it]. Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. You’ve seen the shorts?”

Yeah, that’s a shitty take on Gillis’ part…

I watched it after the backlash. It was like offensive but not like thaaat offensive. Mostly just not that funny. I don’t expect much from SNL, they had Elon Musk on. Honestly, the backlash is giving this asshole too much unearned attention.

Ya the whole bunch of Joe Rogan orbiters currently are trash, Gillis, Theo, a bunch of other shmucks. The guy that moved from Canada to Texas, trash, he can stay down there.

Everyone is entitled to their personal truth, unless it’s the wrong truth, I guess. This only shows how out of touch Levy may be with the majority of average people and if he might live in a social safe space bubble.

If you agree with the sentiment, to any extent, then it’s probably funny and you take is as a joke, if you don’t agree then you probably don’t find it funny and take it seriously, and not as a joke. We repeat this same stupid hysteric outrage pageant every fucking time…

Laughing doesn’t make you a rapist or rape apologist or whatever other horrible thing they claim. Not everything is maximum horror if you don’t agree with it. Feels like progressive ideology is approaching Catholic levels of extreme good and bad in their worldview. Either Jesus or Satan, heaven or Hell, ultimate good or ultimate evil, with nothing in between.

    • This is the right take, in my view.

We are at one of the most polarized times in history, and now more than ever, we need to try and offset that polarization. We’ve already seen the consequences of a lot of one-issue voting in this space. The same is true of one-issue opinion building.

Hear a joke you don’t agree with? Don’t laugh. But speaking up, walking out, etc. for that one joke makes you look intolerant. Flip the tables, and you aren’t really doing anything different. There has been this push to speak up every time, but it is at odds with the way humans actually respond to things and how we think about issues that may be introduced in that way.

Hear a bunch of jokes in the same routine you don’t like? That’s a different beast, but crucially, your reasoning for then speaking up will be much richer and more informed than “I didn’t like that joke”.
