GTA 6 will launch on PC just a few months after consoles, according to a new report.

    • More than likely. PC ports of R* games don’t usually come along for about a year and a half, and I’ve yet to see any evidence from that overpaid asshat that the company has suddenly found any amount of respect for the Master Race.

I imagine the Anti Cheat they added to GTAV Online will be in GTAVI Online so I cant play. And even if they ship without the Anti Cheat, I imagine they will add it and block my ability to play. And with that insane price tag. Not worth the risk at all.

Isn’t the anti-cheat only used on multiplayer? Singleplayer would be fine and honestly, after experiencing the hackers in GTA V’s online mode, I’m really not interested in the same thing in the sequel.

      • There was another recent post going around Lemmy that GTA VI was a “single-player experience” (a Rockstar quote), with some other speculation that GTA:O, if/when it is revamped, will be a standalone product.

Yes it is. Thats why I specifically said GTA Online was talking about it.

GTAV Online wasnt so bad. I got alot of free money from them. And the odd lobby being fucked was a minor detail.

In May, Zelnick told Bloomberg that Rockstar "always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core. Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn’t there, if they’re not served first and best, you kind of don’t hit your other consumers.”

Can someone translate that into English for me, because I can’t understand it. It sounds like he’s saying PC players aren’t served if console players aren’t served first, which doesn’t make sense.

      Translation:

"Sony&Microsoft birbe us with lot of money to release on their console, because their console are worthless without birbed exclusives.

Valve won’t birbe us because they are still into that obsolete thing called… <<honesty>>

Ultimately Epic Games can’t afford to biribe us"

Few months, few years… Won’t buy it anyway. It might boast many shiny tech achievements just as San Andreas and GTAV did (which will be great if it gives other devs ideas on how to better optimize their games) but not what I want from a game.

I’m actually excited about GTA 6 on PC. Even though I have a Series S as a fallback, I prefer all games to be played on PC. But I won’t buy it day one for full price, no game is worth that money.

https://store.rockstargames.com/game/buy-gta-vi - On PC we don’t know (presumably the same as on consoles), but for consoles it will be 80 Euros / Dollars. And this is not even the full game (here called Standard Edition), because there are some stuff missing in this version, such access to some specific in game shops. For the full version (here called Ultimate Edition), it costs 100 Euros / Dollars.

Obligatory “pre-order” rant: BTW I don’t get who people pre-order a digital only game. I have some sympathy for discs and cartridge, because they can be sold out. But there are none for this game.

I bet most of the complaints will be how much it costs to upgrade to the recommended computer hardware level.

I know that I’m not going to spend $2k to play it on PC.

I doubt it will have particularly high hardware requirements. It’s built around base PS5 and even Xbox Series S, neither of which are very powerful systems compared to common PC gaming hardware.

We’re talking about RX 6700 or RTX 2080 levels of performance for PS5 (which can be found used for around €/$ 200 with a bit of luck) and RX 6500 to 6600 (XT) for an Xbox One S equivalent, which is a bit cheaper. CPU performance isn’t even worth going into, since it’s trivial to match and exceed with a PC, even on a very modest budget.

This isn’t just theoretical. I built a cheap PC around a used RTX 2080 a few years ago to match console performance (just in time for the Starfield release; I actually had a great time with this game) and it was pretty much spot-on with a bit of an advantage for the Nvidia GPU depending on the title - and with prices back then, I actually managed to build the entire PC for roughly the same price as a PS5 or Xbox Series X.

Even if we aim for the PS5 Pro as a recommended target, we’re talking RX 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti (16 GB versions), which can be found for less than 500 bucks with a bit of luck. Not cheap, but not outrageous money, especially if dropped into an affordable AM4 system. The rumored 30 FPS limit even on PS5 Pro is very likely due to a lack of CPU processing power, which isn’t an issue on PC.

Rockstar has every interest in the world to make this game run on as many PCs as possible, since GTA Online in particular is their main cash cow and they are hoping to convince as many players of GTA V Online to migrate over to the new game and buying as many Shark Cards as possible to speed up the grind again.

For as much as one has every right to hate the company for its labor practices and how it’s treating the gaming community, the studio is employing some incredibly talented programmers and artists who have been known to cleverly squeeze every last bit of visual fidelity and simulation complexity out of relatively limited hardware (apart from the abysmal GTA IV PC port, of course).

This is speculation, of course. The PC port might be terrible, but I think after RDR2, this is unlikely.

So, in short, you won’t have to spend two grand on a PC to play it, even in today’s crazy hardware world. Chances are, if you already have a somewhat decent PC, you might only need to upgrade it a little. What are your specs?
