Carney is an arch-neoliberal, the guy drips capitalism and finance and literally everything I hate.
He’s also saved us from being a US client state, and he’s smart, competent, and running the country roughly in the right direction currently. Something the NDP are currently almost literally incapable of doing.
Attacking a competent leader and politician who’s in the midst of steering us through a crisis does not make me want to vote for you, it makes me think that you are more concerned with being voted in than with actual governance.
Maybe the NDP need to sort out their own house before they start attacking the sitting PM from distant distant 4th place
Edit: well shit, this is a French NDP comm, I’m probably cooked.
How is it “attacking” if he’s never, for one second, putting Carney in any actual danger of losing anything? Carney has a Majority. For 4 years to go. Sounds to me like what you don’t like is people voicing their concerns. If people aren’t speaking up when Carney does something that hurts more than it helps, then in what world do we actually expect things to improve? Organizing communities is the first step toward actually building a movement. Getting people to speak up isn’t attacking anyone, and characterizing it that way is an attack on the freedom of expression of every Canadian.
Stop being cynical and believe in your fellow Canadians for a change. We’re the only ones left any of us have. We can at least try to treat each other with some dignity.
There is no separate francophone NDP community.
You’re of course entitled to your opinion, but, well, so am I and I think your reasoning is flawed. Carney did not “save us”, the Canadian people did by voting down the poilievrite maple magas. Carney has some interesting policies, such as unifying the internal Canadian market, and diversifying Canadian trade, but in many other ways, my read is that he’s laying the groundwork for an eventual right-populist whiplash. His neoliberal policies of firesale privatizations, limiting labour power, lowering environmental standards, abandoning climate adaptation, circumventing indigenous rights, etc are not “the right direction”, they are the pillars for a future with more inequality, more “K-shaped recovery”, more power concentrated at the wealthy classes and more environmental degradation. In that future, a less disagreeable, smarter fascist will be able to reap what Carney is sowing.
Your framing of the competent leader traitorously being stabbed in the back while saving us, is even already creating the exact schema by which the fascists of the 2030s are going to be enacting the Maga agenda, more politely, more competently, and less cartoonishly than Poilievre or Trump.
The criticism of Carney by the Left is not there to make Avi Lewis prime minister. It’s to steer us away from a trajectory that leads to a maple “Meloni-ism” a couple election cycles down the road. It’s literally right now the only thing Canada has in terms of actually loyal and constructive opposition.
That said, we also have our own positive vision of what a democratic socialist Canada should be. Feel free to disagree with that as you like. But don’t make the mistake of dismissing our criticism of the government as some envious power grab fantasy. Your politics will be less robust and thought out, more cartoonish and more, well, american-ish(!) if you do.
Then give me a reason to vote for the NDP instead of fear mongering about the liberals.
Here’s a bunch, for starters: https://lewisisleader.ca/ideas
Edit: I don’t like your “fear mongering” framing either. That implies I’m just throwing shit at you to scare you with some kind of ulterior motive. I’m not. This is my honest to god analysis of the situation, what I actually believe. Can we do this discussion in good faith please?
