Bluesky tells WIRED it blocked links to a leaked archive of information on 41,000 ICE, CBP, and other DHS workers because it contains people’s contact information, shared without their authorization.
The fact that there was a leak really puts a smile on my face
Bluesky is supposed to be decentralized in some way right? Does anyone know if whatever they’re doing to censor this genuinely prevents people from viewing them or not, how does that work?
Well bluesky is made of different parts (AppView, PDS, …) that almost all have alternatives, it’s decentralised but in a different way, and better than ActivityPub imho.
But the fact is that the vast majority of users still use the default parts made by Bluesky.
What’s weird is that this censorship is not made with Bluesky’s moderation and I can see the posts and open the link just fine. I’m trying with the default app, AppView and moderation but an alternative PDS. But I don’t see how a PDS is supposed to change that, maybe it’s because I don’t have a US IP?
From my understanding the software is able to be decentralized but from what I see most people don’t. They’re blocking it on their instance. So theoretically two different bluesky instances can share between each other but the bsky.app won’t.
You can share about icepick on Bluesky, what is being blocked is clicking the link (because it goes through their redirect).
Also their is not really instances on Bluesky, the decentralisation is more granular.
So what’s everyone going to do with the data? How can we legally ruin their lives day by day?
Sign them up for criminally hard to cancel gym memberships?
So… link?
