While people in the National Capital Region will enjoy an extra hour of sleep on Sunday, it could be the last time Gatineau residents wind back their clocks, according to Quebec’s new premier.

I’m sure the freshly appointed anti-Canadian Premier of Québec will be thrilled to drive a temporal wedge between the two provinces, directly into the heart of the nation’s Capital.

Why not? The hopefully soon-to-be-ousted anti-Canadian Premier of Alberta’s going ahead with things her own province voted against, so I mean… that’s a thing, now.

Ugh, yeah. Born and raised in AB, but it’s gotten so bad that I’m actually leaving next year and will probably never come back. Never really liked it much here anyway…

Honestly, I don’t see how Canada can remain unscathed when extremists can capture government in the provinces to try and tear us apart from within— on top of external pressures, particularly by the US.

There has to be a better system which ensures the integrity of this country moving forward, but other than sweeping electoral reform, I’m not sure what else it could be…

What with all the controversy, it seems like the perfect time to introduce a new time zone concept that plays to the short attention spans and love of random novelty that the new generation of clock users are known for. Let’s adjust the clocks forward and back throughout the year by five minute intervals each fortnight, to keep the start of daylight hours as close as possible to 6:30 am.

With modern technology there’s no reason to limit ourselves to only time zones that change as you go east and west — we can have a whole patchwork of different time zones depending on latitude, elevation, and local custom.

To keep it even more interesting we could make the time change by a random amount of minutes each time, announced three days in advance. There will be no more artificial division between time zones. Every time you go anywhere you’ll need to take into account the time difference, making the world feel so much more alive and connected. And everyone who wants to wake up at 6:30 every day can simply use the sun for their alarm clock.

I’m sure the naysayers will be able to find some kind of downside to this arrangement, but experts agree that the boost to morale and productivity will be so great that pretty soon everyone will get used to the clocks changing and it will seem like too much work to change it back.
