I don’t know about this device specifically but this is a decent review and this kind of simple epaper screen seems like a thing a lot of people would like and it wouldn’t become an obsolete gadget being such an inherently simple focused tool.

Can it be the father figure I never had?
Do you expect child support? 🫠
It has a kickstand yes
Dad?
A boombox? With little cassettes that change into animals on command?
I got a TRMNL X and a Seeed e-ink display. I like them. The color Seeed display looks reasonably good for what it is. The TRMNL X has been running without recharging showing a single static image for well over six months. It might be approaching a year.
I just looked at their site and see that they have a color display that I wasn’t aware of and I’m mildly interested in purchasing one. I guess that’s my endorsement: bought one device, would buy another. Not affiliated, just a nerd who likes electronic toys.
They haven’t improved my life in any meaningful way, but I read a neat blog post about how someone used one to create a message board for a parent who survived a stroke or some other memory-impairment. The adult children could write helpful messages to the parent through a custom web portal created by the developer son. Got me interested, though we’re not doing anything practical like that.

I mean, if it’s just a single static image you can go ahead and unplug the battery, e-ink doesn’t need energy to maintain an image.
So… It could it be be brown, it could be blue, it could be violet sky, it could be hurtful, it could be purple, it could be anything I like… Right?
I bought the Seeed TRMNL DIY kit a while back, and had less time than I’d like to fiddle with it, but I was a bit disappointed with the current state of hosting your own server for it.
800 × 480 seems like it must have a pretty low DPI right?
You can tell from the photos it’s not exactly high-res, but for the kinds of usage cases they are demonstrating (mainly an info display you place somewhere in your house), that’s not really a deal breaker. It’s not meant to be a digital picture frame or an ebook reader, where DPI would actually matter.
