This game has been in active development for a minimum of six years by a team of professional game developers. If Rockstar is genuinely concerned that a two-month slop bootleg project will pull sales away from their game, in numbers great enough that they’re moving their timeline up to attempt to avoid it, this greatly harms my confidence in their product. They have no faith in their own game, and basically just told everyone that slop-copies might end up being a viable alternative to buying GTA.
Someone with a project this big who has faith in their project would not be worried about this problem. If you’re a single indie dev, sure, it’s a concern. A lot of indie games are much smaller in scope and much easier to rip off. But we’re talking about one of the biggest game studios in the world making one of the biggest games of all time. Being worried about slop kiddies hitting the market first with a clone of their game should be one of their absolute lowest priorities. If that’s possible then it just means this game is a failure.
Nah. They made their bed, now they can get eat dicks. Not purchasing at any price point. Maybe pirate once all the ultimate edition all dlcs hit the net, if that. It’s not like its going to be something drastically different from 5 at its core.
Similar story with Japan and Western movies.
Way back before decent internet and simple movie piracy methods, movies would take half a year or more to arrive in Japan. When people here (I think it started with university students) got access to high speed internet, they would download, watch and distribute the movies from cams, screeners, or places that already had them on DVD.
Movie people realized how much money they’d lose if people who wanted to see something had the option to watch it free and earlier, so they finally started bringing (most) movies here faster. There’s weird exceptions every now and then (recently Bond and Oppenheimer), but piracy improved things by a lot here.
Anyways, I think GTA V had a 1.5 year delay for the PC version? If there’s a AI decompile or whatever I’ll play that before waiting that long again.
Hmmm I’m oddly more favorable towards LLMs when their use means rich people or companies lose money.
They’re magically able to work faster?
Or they’ll be releasing it buggier than normal?
The PC version is developed along with the console ones but since it’s a much more free platform, they want as many people as possible to pay for it before it gets cracked within days on PC.
If you make a multi plattform game you always originate with pc anyway, it just does not make sense to develop any other way. The console exclusive(s) are deals for money.

Maybe they just start sooner.
The image suggests a strip off, not a rip off.
Uh huh, let me know when it’s on sale for $20 and I’ll consider it.
Still not buying it, maybe I’ll finally learn how to run pirated games.
It’s not as hard as it sounds, and definitely not as hard as its made out to be.
It’s partly a matter of trust, I’m not savvy enough to clean an infected package.
Most trusted source is fitgirl, takes longer to install tho because its compressed to take less space when downloading, fmhy games section should have the other sites
Nobody cleans infected packages, it’s just a matter of trusting the source and using one that’s popular enough some of the users will have done the hard work of checking.
Tips?
Check out !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com and their wiki in their sidebar. Should have enough info to get you started, and if you have questions that’s a good place to ask.
Rockstar is stupid if they think I’m still considering spending money on them.
They’ll never financially recover from losing you as their customer.
Does the boot taste authentic or were the bootmakers also threatened because they want to unionize?
I won’t give them another Cent myself for numerous reasons, but I was just mocking your grandiose declaration.
This would have gotten me excited to finally give GTA a try … If they didn’t lose me for union busting!
I think it’ll come out tomorrow… So, it’s releasing today?
