aka_oscar ( @aka_oscar@beehaw.org ) 8•1 year agoWould it be possible when installing an os to ask the user to allow telemetry? Like it wouldnt be neither opt in or opt out. You have to choose one in order to progress. No choice selected by default.
It could also have a “more info” button clarifying what data will be collected and where you can revert that choice in the settings.
staticlifetime ( @staticlifetime@kbin.social ) 5•1 year agoRight. This is the only right answer when it comes to a compromise between developers and users.
Tartas1995 ( @Tartas1995@discuss.tchncs.de ) 2•11 months agoDefault on “more info”.
- Left: no
- Middle: more info
- Right: yes
Quick easy fast.
Responsabilidade ( @BaalInvoker@lemmy.eco.br ) 6•1 year agoOpt-in telemetry leads to biased sample. Not useful at all.
Opt-out is way better regarding development.
dotslashme ( @dotslashme@infosec.pub ) 4•1 year agoThe only way to ensure correct statistics is to never give the user a choice in the matter, but opt-in vs opt-out have nothing to do with that debate, opt-in is user centric, opt-out is not.
