There’s so many niche instances but I’m yet to see a football (soccer) or general sport one. Why is that?

Try looking for instances geared towards sports on lemmyverse.net

Someone suggested it further down but fanaticus.social has most of the largest teams and general sports communities. The head mod seems pretty chill too so if there’s anything specific you’re looking for and not seeing it’s worth asking them

There are a ton of them. Just a few examples for soccer:
!football@lemmy.ml !football@lemmy.world !manunuted@lemmy.ml !gunners@lemmy.world !reddevils@lemmy.world
For American football:
!nfl@lemmy.world !nfl@lemmy.ml !cfb@lemmy.world !cfb@fanaticus.social
There are specific communities for like every team’s fandom and every sport.
Use this to find communities: https://browse.feddit.de
Those are communities. I’m talking about instances (servers)

I read too quickly. Sorry. Why are you looking for an instance, though? You get the data either way, right?
I just like how everything is so distributed and so together. Instances are like villages. There’s like twenty pubs and they’re all different but they all contribute to the town and of course the country. I love when I see a random instance I would’ve never discovered normally and then look around and find communities I would’ve never stumbled upon ordinarily.

I think fanaticus.social was created to be the sports instance, but it is fairly new so I’m not sure any communities hosted there has taken off. It is what you’re looking for, though.
That’s cool. Thanks!
