AndrasKrigare ( @AndrasKrigare@beehaw.org ) 14•2 years agoMicrosoft continuing the tradition of alternating good and bad releases of the OS.
const_void ( @const_void@lemmy.ml ) 6•2 years agoI always hear this repeated but I feel like it doesn’t hold up. Most Windows releases are bad these days. Last release that was mostly decent was Windows 7 but they were even fucking that up towards the end with ‘telemetry’.
FaceDeer ( @FaceDeer@lemmy.ml ) 5•2 years agoDidn’t they say that they were planning to no longer release new “versions” per se, but just keep on updating the existing operating system indefinitely? Perhaps they had the bad luck to start that strategy with one of the bad releases.
PeterPoopshit ( @PeterPoopshit@lemmy.ml ) 1•2 years agoI think they also throttled gpu performance at the kernel level or something. I vaguely remember reading a post about that but don’t have source or anything. However back in the day I was getting dogshit framerates in VR and I had a “pretty good” computer. After trying everything to solve these performance issues for months and failing, I tried out Windows 10 and suddenly all my framerate problems were solved.
Joe Cool ( @joe_cool@lemmy.ml ) 4•2 years agoThey made nothing good since Windows 7. And that was only good compared to Vista.
XP and 2000 were a lot faster.
CrownCrafter ( @CrownCrafter@lemmy.ml ) 12•2 years agoThis is the year of the Linux desktop
BuxtonWater ( @buxtonwater@lemmy.ml ) 12•2 years agoAs a brit this is perfect, guess the windows 11 dev team just really loves us.
potcandan ( @potcandan@lemmy.one ) 8•2 years agoI’m holding out until they force me to upgrade from 10. They’ve tried probably a half dozen times or so already to have me choose to upgrade but it’s been a minute.

No forced upgrades if your computer is too old to upgrade. taps forehead
jarfil ( @jarfil@lemmy.ml ) 3•2 years agoNot necessarily too old, but as long as it can boot in “legacy BIOS” mode, I think I’m safe 🤫
Amir ( @amir_s89@lemmy.ml ) 4•2 years agoSave yourself some valuable braincells & other resources. Seriously consider Ubuntu LTS, this is not a joke.
potcandan ( @potcandan@lemmy.one ) 3•2 years agoI dunno… I’ve always used Windows, being annoyed by their requests to update me to the newest version isn’t enough to want to learn a new OS or anything.
Cromutorium ( @Cromutorium@beehaw.org ) 2•2 years agoI’m running 10 LTSC on my main desktop pc and get no nagging to upgrade at all. Tbh the only thing stopping me from switching to Linux is lack of driver support for my simracing wheel (still waiting, thrustmaster…)
Moonrise2473 ( @Moonrise2473@lemmy.ml ) 5•2 years agoIt’s an immediate result of a cost saving measure. Go here and read the red banner: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/language/

imho it is useful, not to be canned
jason ( @jason@social.mrnf.me ) 5•2 years ago@Dasnap debain <3 never have to worry about any of that
WhoRoger ( @WhoRoger@lemmy.world ) 4•2 years agoPeople having to interact with computers with translated UI need to deal with similar bewilderments very often. It doesn’t even need to be AI translated, just shittily.
SakamotoSan ( @SakamotoSan@lemmy.ml ) 4•2 years ago*Indianisms 😄

That’s what happens when you don’t hire enough people to do the job. The job still gets done, but poorly.
cavemeat ( @cavemeat@beehaw.org ) 3•2 years agoWindows 11 is a mess. Weirdly, I find that quite endearing.
Well this is off to an interesting start.
mook ( @mook@lemmy.ml ) 2•2 years agoAlthough I’ve been an Ubuntu user for 12+ years, I do like win 11
DestroyMegacorps ( @DestroyMegacorps@lemmy.ml ) 1•2 years agoWhat happened to MY AMERICUH WINDOWS?
