    i have never wondered how they are made, but I have wondered why they are so expensive. Android tablets start at like 20 quid these days, but e-ink has really held its price.

      Here’s something from Google.

      E Ink panels are costly because they are challenging to manufacture and because several significant patents have just recently expired.

      Also The E-ink corporation is like the only game in town haha

      I’ll see what I can dig up but if I were to cast my ideas:

      Eink is still pretty niche while tablets have very much saturated the market. The saturation drives down the price.

      Also, I sincerely believe Amazon takes a massive loss to get people on kindles.
