HisNoodlyServant ( @HisNoodlyServant@beehaw.org ) 42•2 years agoAfter Steves AMA really doubt anything will break through that guys ego. Wouldn’t surprise me if they just start cleaning house on subs that go longer than the two days.
bitsplease ( @bitsplease@lemmy.ml ) 10•2 years agoSadly, I’m sure they wouldn’t have any problem finding more “cooperative” mods to replace them if they did
shortkid113 ( @shortkid113@lemmy.ml ) 6•2 years agoStep 1: Remove the people that closed it Step 2: Put new mods in place (probably just gonna be alt admin accounts not labeled as such) Step 3: Profit or some shit like that
bitsplease ( @bitsplease@lemmy.ml ) 2•2 years agoWouldn’t even have to be alt admin accounts probably, sadly there are always folks who just want the “power” that being a mod brings, and would love to take over an already popular subreddit
Neptune014 ( @Neptune014@lemmy.ml ) 30•2 years agoHighly unlikely that this ‘protest’ will do anything. However I think it will be the point at which a lot of users quit Reddit. Thats the time where Lemmy will make get 20-50k new users.
I think there should be a website that compares the top 5 or so instances and explains the differences between them. Since right now, new users will have no idea which one to join.
Start referring your friends. If you have any.
distractionfactory ( @distractionfactory@beehaw.org ) 14•2 years agoInstance owners could update the descriptions on https://join-lemmy.org/instances to include a link to a “Who are we” kind of readme.
Ultimately I’m not sure any of the instances will look the same in a month.
VioletteRei ( @VioletteRei@lemmy.ml ) 5•2 years agoHey, don’t attack me like that! I know that I have no friends :-:
Copio ( @Copio@lemmy.ml ) 5•2 years agoHighly unlikely that this ‘protest’ will do anything.
I agree to that. While the common mainstream news are reporting it, two-day drip in activity will hardly put a dent in the monthly analytic.
Sal ( @Sallp@lemmy.world ) 4•2 years agoSome like r/dndmemes say it is indefinite.
Copio ( @Copio@lemmy.ml ) 4•2 years agoDamn, I will miss that sub.
knighthawk0811 ( @knighthawk0811@sh.itjust.works ) 29•2 years agothat one time when 16 mods controlling half of Reddit actually worked out in our favor
evadetheeye ( @evadetheeye@midwest.social ) 28•2 years agoFor those who want to watch it happen: https://reddark.untone.uk/
atocci ( @atocci@kbin.social ) 7•2 years agoWow, 108 of them have already gone. I use Reddit Sync, so I really want this to have an effect, but I’ve seen how blackouts usually go…
BackOnMyBS ( @BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world ) 3•2 years ago160 on Jun 10 at 1240 EST
Classy ( @Classy@lemmy.world ) 3•2 years ago208 as of a few minutes ago, 15:40 EST.
BackOnMyBS ( @BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world ) 3•2 years agoof course /r/circlejerk is dark lmaooooooo i fucking love that sub so much 🤣
Korgen ( @Korgen@lemmy.korgen.xyz ) 21•2 years agoUnfortunately 48 hours probably won’t do anything if they just come back like nothing happened. If the AMA with spez has shown anything it’s that Reddit is not going to back down even with the large protest from the community.
Sinnz ( @Sinnz@feddit.de ) English15•2 years agoYeah, the AMA was the final nail in the coffin imo.
lixus98 ( @lixus98@kbin.social ) 14•2 years agoEven though I don’t think it will have an effect on the decision they took, I do want to see if the admins replace mods or take control of subreddits
em2 ( @em2@lemmy.ml ) 8•2 years agoThen I hope they wipe their subreddits while they can.
Vormital ( @Vormital@lemmy.world ) 6•2 years agoPure guess work from me, but I assume reddit could just roll back and restore a nuked sub from backups? Maybe lose a few hours to a days worth of posts?
em2 ( @em2@lemmy.ml ) 4•2 years agoPossibly. But if it’s a large amount of subreddits that had a lot of content, it would be a lot of work and time for them, I’d assume. Make em work for it.
(You’re probably right though)
Yankeebobo ( @Yankeebobo@lemmy.ml ) 13•2 years agoThe protest itself won’t have any impact. Two days won’t be enough to alter a single thing. Those that are going to remain dark indefinitely I wouldn’t be surprised if they are taken back by Reddit and assigned another mod. Corporate will win in the end, even if it does turn out to cost them.
Vormital ( @Vormital@lemmy.world ) 11•2 years agoHopefully more subs will follow r/videos lead. They have planned to go offline indefinitely/permanently. Although it’s quite likly reddit admins will nuke the mod team and reopen it with new mods.
Cass.Forest ( @cityboundforest@beehaw.org ) 6•2 years agoI want to hope that if Reddit does end up doing that, it’ll be seen and treated like scabs during a strike.
towerful ( @towerful@beehaw.org ) 3•2 years agoIt was either apple or iPhone that just announced they are going private permanently
Seraph089 ( @Seraph089@sh.itjust.works ) 7•2 years agoThe attempts at indefinite blackouts could have more impact than we expect, even if admins intervene and reopen them with new mods. They’re doing this very publicly and with overwhelming support from their communities, so the “takeovers” would just make it look even worse for Reddit.
That will not change Reddit’s mind about their plans, but it could convince more users to move on to greener pastures (Lemmy or otherwise)
BackOnMyBS ( @BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world ) 6•2 years agoThat’s cool. Let reddit turn into the next Facebook. It will attract the garbage and protect us from that.
InfiniWheel ( @InfiniWheel@lemmy.one ) 4•2 years agoIt will at least show the reddit users that don’t know anything about it that there is something big going on
raw ( @rawfox@lemmy.ml ) 12•2 years agoIve deleted my Reddit account last evening, when i did read their plans. Lemmy is pretty cool tho, let hope we get more powa soon here :)
Countmacula ( @Countmacula@lemmy.ml ) 6•2 years agoI wonder how long it takes for them to boot the current mods and put new ones in?
jon ( @jon@lemmy.tf ) 6•2 years agoI give it a day, at least for the 20M+ member subs
