While Campi Flegrei — which means “burning fields” — may be closer to rupture, there is no guarantee that this will actually result in an eruption, the study concluded.
Pretty standard conclusion for studies like this. There’s signs of activity but we can’t actually predict with certainty. Close to eruption could mean tomorrow, could mean hundreds of years, could mean a new volcano is forming. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Posted much the same on another share of this article (Lemmy is a bit odd so far that way).
The original paper was interesting enough reading for me. Lots of data but also lots of extrapolation. Science in a nutshell!
