This community still needs an icon, and just the flag is boring. What does the community want to see?
meejle ( @meejle@lemmy.world ) English17•2 years agoNever forget that the classic video game Lemmings is itself a British creation.
This would be my pitch:
Alternate version and transparent PNG
Still an official™️ Lemmings skin tone, but one from a later game I guess, in the interest of inclusivity:
Transparent PNG in case anyone wants to remix it:
Easy, relevant banner idea
Use a screenshot like this one, but decide what they’re queueing for. Greggs? Woolies? Half-price biscuits? The possibilities are endless.
Ooh, I love it! I’m inclined to go with the banner already. Any objections?
sideone ( @sideone@lemmy.world ) English1•2 years agoMake it so (please)
thegiddystitcher ( @thegiddystitcher@beehaw.org ) English3•2 years agoGotta be between this and top hat lemming. Does Lemmy do polls, yet? 🤔
Fishbulb ( @Fishbulb@lemmy.world ) English2•2 years agoThis has got to be it, it’s perfect
thegiddystitcher ( @thegiddystitcher@beehaw.org ) English15•2 years agoGreggs pasty, or a nice cuppa (pending inevitable bickering over exactly what shade of tea)
Edit: Differentiate ourselves from the other place with an icon of a duck
rubikfrog ( @rubikfrog@feddit.uk ) English8•2 years agoA quick image search for “union jack rubber duck” shows some contenders…
Aer ( @LillianVS@lemmy.world ) English7•2 years agoI approve of duck. Everyone likes duck
Speckle ( @Speckle@lemmy.world ) English2•2 years agoI was thinking something Greggs based as well. I was just going to say the logo though 😂
sideone ( @sideone@lemmy.world ) English3•2 years agoI was thinking something Greggs based as well
I know this is a safe space, so I’m going to say something controversial. I don’t like anything Greggs make (apart from the jammie dodger biscuit)
thegiddystitcher ( @thegiddystitcher@beehaw.org ) English11•2 years ago… There’s a limit to how safe a space gets you know
sideone ( @sideone@lemmy.world ) English3•2 years agoYeah, that’s fair. I’ll take it on the chin!
rmuk ( @rmuk@feddit.uk ) English1•2 years agoWhat’s your local alternative? There’s a chain in the North-West called Greenhalch’s that’s solid, or Cooplands in the Midlands is good too.
sideone ( @sideone@lemmy.world ) English2•2 years agoWe have Parsons which is OK. Plenty of independent bakeries but all quite expensive (think £2.60 for a plain croissant). I don’t tend to bother.
TheFriendless ( @TheFriendless@lemmy.world ) English14•2 years agoI was always fond of this image, but am loving the lemming top hat.
alibloke ( @alibloke@feddit.uk ) English14•2 years ago Repulsa ( @Repulsa@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English13•2 years agoA buttery crumpet?
PrimordialSoup ( @PrimordialSoup@sh.itjust.works ) English1•2 years agoMmmm
Menthol ( @GoingMenthol@lemmy.world ) English11•2 years agoAn imposing picture of Mr Blobby
rmuk ( @rmuk@feddit.uk ) English7•2 years agoSo, just a picture of Mr. Blobby?
Honestly that diseased penis looking fucker haunts my nightmares.
Chaos ( @chaosppe@lemmy.world ) English11•2 years agoJust for fun I asked gpt-4 what the most British thing is, I then asked it to make a prompt for midjourney. Here is the result. (Don’t question the alien hand)
GuinnessChocolates ( @GuinnessChocolates@feddit.uk ) English2•2 years agoUgh the hands. Always the hands.
HumanPenguin ( @HumanPenguin@feddit.uk ) English11•2 years agoLemming wearing a top hat and monicle. Drinking a cuppa
itsmikeyd ( @itsmikeyd@lemmy.ml ) English41•2 years agoSomething like this?
thegiddystitcher ( @thegiddystitcher@beehaw.org ) English5•2 years agoWhat a dapper fella
HumanPenguin ( @HumanPenguin@feddit.uk ) English3•2 years agoLove it.
charred ( @charred@sh.itjust.works ) English3•2 years agoIs that AI?
Speckle ( @Speckle@lemmy.world ) English2•2 years agoThis is brilliant! How’d you come up with it so quickly?
itsmikeyd ( @itsmikeyd@lemmy.ml ) English4•2 years agoAI, innit.
Speckle ( @Speckle@lemmy.world ) English18•2 years agoBruv I tried AI and got this, not quite the same lol
RamesesKnibs ( @RamesesKnibs@lemmy.world ) English16•2 years agoThis was my go, love how we’re all getting totally different styles!
Speckle ( @Speckle@lemmy.world ) English4•2 years agoThis one is great! I love how gentlemanly he is
RamesesKnibs ( @RamesesKnibs@lemmy.world ) English1•2 years agoHe’s a dapper chap isn’t he
HumanPenguin ( @HumanPenguin@feddit.uk ) English2•2 years agoLooks lime a winner to me.
TeaHands ( @TeaHands@lemmy.world ) English1•2 years agoMaybe more suited to UKFormal?
itsmikeyd ( @itsmikeyd@lemmy.ml ) English5•2 years agoI honestly prefer yours. It’s adorable!
Speckle ( @Speckle@lemmy.world ) English1•2 years agoOh thanks! Well seems like there might be a couple of options then 😊
dimspace ( @dimspace@lemmy.world ) English3•2 years agoI actually love this… lemming in bowler hat sat in a cup of tea… very british
TeaHands ( @TeaHands@lemmy.world ) English3•2 years agoAnd yet so charming in its way!
andypiper ( @andypiper@lemmy.world ) English2•2 years agothis is the best :-)
Speckle ( @Speckle@lemmy.world ) English6•2 years agoHow about a lemming sipping tea like the Kermit the frog meme?
GreyShuck ( @GreyShuck@beehaw.org ) English6•2 years agoA deckchair? A pub sign?
rmuk ( @rmuk@feddit.uk ) English6•2 years agoA pubsign for a pub called The Deckchair?
mykl ( @mykl@lemmy.world ) English5•2 years agoHow about this most British of pictures? Angry person, reactolite glasses, a sausage ready for the back garden barbecue and even a sneaky garden fence. If there was a wheelie bin in there it would cover 90% of normal chat :-)
(Edit: and please for the love of all that is holy do not use a top-hat or a monocle. Those are lazy parodies of Britishness used mainly by Americans whose idea of the UK comes from The Crown and Downton Abbey. There’s only one person who I can even imagine wearing either item regularly and I would probably get banned for saying what I think of him.)
TSMKFail ( @TSMKFail@lemmy.world ) English4•2 years agoThe Alonso Deckchair image with the Union Flag as the background. Also give Alonso a Top Hat plus Monacle
Mane25 ( @Mane25@lemmy.world ) English2•2 years agoI now think a duck would be the funniest. Obviously, the ultimate “middle-finger” to the old regime.
jerome ( @jerome@lemmy.world ) English1•2 years agoSpotted dick and tea.
America gets gun and hamburders.
India gets many phone icons.
Australia gets scary spider on a dingo.
spicemouse ( @spicemouse@beehaw.org ) English1•2 years agoI tried to let one of those AIs get it done, but more work needed I’m afraid:
“Mr Blobby getting thrown out of a Wetherspoons pub in a cartoon style, with union jack flags and some bulldogs”
Sorry lads.
Aer ( @LillianVS@lemmy.world ) English1•2 years agoI propose this cute rubber ducky! All hail the duckies!
