Let’s keep it simple: uptime means the amount of time our site is available for you to enjoy. We’re buzzing with excitement to let you know that we’re committed to achieving a monthly uptime of 90% or more. That means our hive will be accessible to you at least 27 days a month.
Now, we don’t want to get your hopes up too high, so we won’t make any wild promises. In fact, our admin team estimates an even better uptime than 90%, but let’s be realistic and not sting ourselves with overpromising. Our mid-term goal within the next weeks is to reach a promise-able uptime of 95% — like having a beehive humming smoothly!
Currently we’re not planning on expanding the server capacity any more, since we’re waiting for some specific improvements within the Lemmy code and want to scale horizontally (multiple servers) more so than vertically (bigger server).
But that’s not all, folks! Our long-term goal is to achieve an uptime of over 99%, so you can count on our site being as reliable as a well-organized colony. We’re on a mission to create a buzzing social media experience for you, one that keeps you connected without any pesky interruptions.

I can’t imagine the work and expense going into handling such a large influx of users, I imagine this site isn’t running on a $200 Intel NUC with a desk fan tied to it. Mid tier digitalocean droplet for 96€/month, will get more servers soon-ish after we checked the code improvements and horizontal scaling within the next weeks. No point in throwing money at a problem when you don’t know in which direction you should throw (:
Little correction, we’re on the 336$/month tier at the moment to survive the influx from the blackouts. We do plan to go back down though.
That is actually less bad than I was expecting! Both from a financial perspective, and from the perspective of a homelabber who literally used zip ties and styrofoam to get my server into its rack yesterday when I found out I bought the wrong rail system.

Currently no, It’s something I’d like to have. Probably a role on Discord and a flair on Lemmy. I wouldn’t want to have two tiers of people on Beehaw.

a small badge on their profile is probably cool and doesn’t hurt a lot. On the R-site you got access to a special community once you got R-gold, so maybe that’s an interesting option aswell.
I think cosmetic like a flair or badge would be really cool. Private community, uh, not so much… I’d worry that we start listening more to people who have access to that community.
