Guppy ( @Guppy@lemmy.one ) 66•1 year agoHoping to see him face actual consequences for once in his life. What he did cannot be normalized by either side of the house.
Ghostalmedia ( @ghostalmedia@beehaw.org ) English41•1 year agoWhat’s really terrifying is that his followers can’t possibly fathom that a guy with a 50 year history of doing shady stuff, is in fact, still continuing to do shady stuff.
misguidedfunk ( @misguidedfunk@beehaw.org ) 15•1 year agoIt’s gonna be an uphill battle with him getting the same judge who already had to be chastised for her meddling in the investigation.
gary ( @gary@lemmy.world ) 15•1 year agoAgreed, justice should be apolitical.
TheAfterman ( @TheAfterman@beehaw.org ) 3•1 year agoIt’s not even the same for the rich vs poor. Let alone politics.
YourBrainOnScience ( @YourBrainOnScience@lemmy.world ) 11•1 year agoI too want some long overdue schadenfreude but I am just going to hold my breath for the next 24 hours. At this point, it mostly the most rabid followers who still back him - The type who are most likely to start something.
jinno ( @jinno@fedia.io ) 5•1 year agoThe problem is - they’ll file tons of motions and injunctions to try to delay this as long as possible.
jon ( @jon@lemmy.tf ) English3•1 year agoI want to see him declared a flight risk and denied bail, even if it gets reversed next week.
TheAfterman ( @TheAfterman@beehaw.org ) 3•1 year agoI have little hope that he will. They call him teflon Don for a reason.
H-encore ( @Kururin@hc.frorayz.tech ) English2•1 year agoAmen 📿
WhiteOakBayou ( @WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world ) 24•1 year agoI hope tomorrow doesn’t go from protest to riot. I feel like the far-right groups are so full of feds after Jan 6th that anything too coordinated will be difficult.
kataklysm ( @kataklysm@fedia.io ) 6•1 year agoI’m going to have the news on all day tomorrow. I was watching on J6 and I’ll watch tomorrow.
ericatty ( @ericatty@fedia.io ) 10•1 year agoI’m not going to be able to watch, just check my phone occasionally. Hopefully someone will post live updates on the fediverse. Breaking news from people on the scene was one of the things I liked searching reddit for.
The Velour Fog ( @Blackfeathr@lemmy.world ) 1•1 year agoLuckily nothing major happened. Just a thousand morons chanting “We love Trump” and a MAGAt and an anti-Trump protestor almost getting into a fight (they were separated).
Hopefully the violent idiots have toned it down since their J6 buddies continue to get their shit rocked by the Justice Department.
Veraticus ( @Veraticus@lib.lgbt ) English20•1 year agoLock him up!
aeternum ( @aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English7•1 year agoFor the rest of his life hopefully
Sooperstition ( @Sooperstition@lemmy.one ) 17•1 year agoAre they going to perp walk him up the courthouse steps?
gabuwu ( @gabuwu@beehaw.org ) 17•1 year agoI am doubtful. They are being highly coordinated in the way they are approaching this case not to give him free campaign material.
cdrum ( @cdrum@fedia.io ) 6•1 year agointeresting perspective, I hadn’t thought about the campaign angle… I agree though, they won’t perp walk him.
rjc ( @rjc@beehaw.org ) 4•1 year agoBut will we get mug shots this time?
SomeGuyNamedPaul ( @SomeGuyNamedPaul@beehaw.org ) 5•1 year agoNo, the justification is that everyone already knows what he looks like.
nd_nb ( @nd_nb@beehaw.org ) 1•1 year agoYep he said at the last court case he wanted to be led in in handcuffs in front of the media.
Dulce Maria ( @DulceMaria@lemmy.one ) English2•1 year agoI read he’ll enter from an underground garage so we won’t see much of anything.
_number8_ ( @_number8_@lemmy.world ) 7•1 year agowhy do they have this stupid thing where you can’t have phones / cameras / etc in the courtroom? it’s 2023, give us streams. it’s public record isn’t it?
IntangibleSloth ( @IntangibleSloth@lemmy.world ) 4•1 year agoKeep in mind any and all of that he would just use to get donations and campaign ads. I think that’s the main reason he hasn’t gotten the perp walk with handcuffs, he wants it!
Olgratin_Magmatoe ( @Olgratin_Magmatoe@lemmy.world ) 4•1 year agoIt tends to turn court rooms into drama rooms. Everybody starts performing instead of acting serious. The OJ trial is a great example of how damaging cameras can be. Whether you agree with this or not, this is generally the reason why.
rustyspoon ( @rustyspoon@beehaw.org ) 4•1 year agoWell I can think of at least one case in the past few years where courtroom recordings turned the whole trial into a media fiasco and a witch hunt. Maybe it’s justified in some cases, but on the whole I personally think it’s unhealthy for justice.
minode ( @minode@szmer.info ) 3•1 year agoFor many reasons, some are already obsolete. For more details, I recommend this article from mtsu.
The Velour Fog ( @Blackfeathr@lemmy.world ) 2•1 year agoI feel like this is a rule that is going to be done away with at some point in our lifetimes.
AnAngryDumpster ( @AnAngryDumpster@lemmy.world ) 6•1 year agoAnxious to see the results of all this.
pridefulofbeing ( @pridefulofbeing@beehaw.org ) 1•1 year agoWeird thought: what if no judge agreed to represent him? At first this idea sounds funny - but it could also be a tactic to help stifle proceedings and the logistics of law.
LufyCZ ( @LufyCZ@lemmy.world ) 2•1 year agoMaybe he’ll get a state appointed attorney then?
