I know you’re supposed to pronounce it along the lines of “blo-hi”, but the Anglicized “blahaj” is so hard to resist!
Marmie ( @Marmie@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 5•2 years agoWell, I’m from Sweden so… blåhaj lol
The “å” is pronounced like the “a” in “war”, if someone from Britain was saying it. Haj is kinda like “hi”, I guess?
kELAL ( @kELAL@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 2•2 years agoBlå balbil med blåhaj for förbi fyr och får för fort
Distinguishing between /ˈbloːhaj/ and /ˈbloʊhaɪ/ is difficult, at least for this anglophone.
/ˈblɑːhɑːʒ/ is the meme name though
Jenbles ( @Jenbles@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 3•2 years agoEverything from ‘blaw-high’ to ‘blah-hadge’ but it tends to trend towards simply, ‘shonk’.
Good shonk.
LetsGoAshe ( @LetsGoAshe@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 1•2 years agoHe has so many different pronunciations for sure! :3
flamingmongoose ( @flamingmongoose@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 2•2 years agoBl-arge because it makes me laugh
Maikel The Dev ( @maikelthedev@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 2•2 years ago/bla/ /hah/ ?
Bla as in blablablabla
haj as in hahaha
Luna ( @Lunita@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 2•2 years agoBlue hi
valpackett ( @valpackett@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English1•2 years agoI do pronounce the “j” as a “y” sound but my “å” is def not correct, it ends up as way too “a” and not “o” enough xD
transgwender ( @transgwender@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 1•2 years agoYeah I can’t help but say it in the Anglicized “bla-ha-j”, but I always say it in a bit of a goofy way like, a bit of a sing-songy way. Like, musically F-[bla], D-[haj]. Its just too fun saying it like that.
rosesandlillies ( @rosesandlillies@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 1•2 years agoFunny story I didn’t know it was supposed to be pronounced as blohai, until one time I was hooking up with another trans woman from tinder and she got excited when she saw my blahaj and kept pronouncing in the worst way possible (correctly but I didn’t know). I chose to not “correct” her but I was like wow weird
It bugged me so much that I googled it next morning and realized I’m the silly one
Also, the blahaj is called steve in my household and it’s the only way one shall refer to steve.
wh0_cares ( @wh0_cares@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 1•2 years agoI pronounce it Blo-hai, but ya, Bla Ha is super fun as well.
…I do also just call him Shaaaaaaaaark way too often, very fun, I do recommend
yozhfyfyfy ( @yozhfyfyfy@lemmy.world ) 0•2 years agoFor some reason I pronounce it “bla-hadzh” sometimes. I know this is wrong, but anyway. Shonk seems to be enjoying a bit of chaos :)
Wait, what’s the difference between “dzh” and a “hard j”? (Assuming “zh” refers to the final sound in “garage.”) The “hard J” is just a combination of “d” and “zh”.
yozhfyfyfy ( @yozhfyfyfy@lemmy.world ) 0•2 years agoWell, I’m not sure if there is any difference - sorry, not a native speaker. I mean sound like this: https://pronuncian.com/pronounce-j-sound
mlsus ( @mlsus@sh.itjust.works ) 1•2 years agothere is no difference, a hard j (like in jacket) is the same thing as “dzh”, just “dzh” is more spelled out instead of just being a name for it
yozhfyfyfy ( @yozhfyfyfy@lemmy.world ) 2•2 years agoToday I learned. Thanks!
Wander (They/Them) ( @wander@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 0•2 years agoI think I might be wrong, but I personally say it blah ha. But I don’t think this is how its meant to be said lol, like you said blo-hi is the one that I think? maybe is correct
Bluh-hazh, where “zh” is the final sound in “garage.” In IPA, that’s [bhlə’hɑʒ].
raresbears ( @raresbears@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 0•2 years agoI pronounce it as basically blow high
