Threads recently announced that they would be introducing tighter rate limits to combat spam on their new social media platform. This led many to compare it to Twitter’s controversial rate limiting that restricted how many tweets users could view. However, Threads’ rate limits are unlikely to significantly impact users as they focus on limiting common spammy behaviors like excessive commenting and following, which is a common practice among social media platforms to reduce spam. Unlike Twitter’s rate limits, there are no reports of Threads limiting how much content users can view. While Threads is dealing with spam issues post-launch, their implemented rate limits are unlikely to do much to curb the problem based on Twitter’s experience.
