Wander ( @Wander@yiffit.net ) English25•2 years agoSilver lining is that the CEO reaped what he sowed since he was on board as well. Still tragic though.
NekoRogue ( @NekoRogue@beehaw.org ) English27•2 years agoIt feels like the Titanic is an irony magnet. It’s like some cosmic force is still really salty that they called it an “unsinkable ship.”
For example, some of the passengers on this missing submarine:
- The founder of the submarine company who complained about safety regulations, now lost and trapped in his unsafe vessel.
- The Guinness World Record holder for longest time spent traversing the deepest part of the ocean in a single dive will now likely be at the bottom of the ocean forever.
- The director of the company who owns the salvage rights to the Titanic, the company that has brought many artifacts to the surface, now likely leaves its director on the ocean floor with the wreckage.

newtraditionalists ( @newtraditionalists@beehaw.org ) English8•2 years agoWow. This is so macabre. Crazy to be following this story. Thanks for sharing these details.
This is a summary of the posted article (I’m a bot).
David Lochridge was terminated in January 2018 after presenting a scathing quality control report on the vessel. Lochridge’s report detailed “numerous issues that posed serious safety concerns,” according to a court filing. OceanGate sued Lochridge in June 2018, accusing him of sharing confidential information with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) The lawsuit was settled in November 2018; neither OceanGate nor Lochridge could immediately provide details of the alleged report or the reasons for his dismissal.
