This is also how I interpret that.
If it’s too hard for the company to do, then they must be interested in the government to do it for them… The last think I think these companies want is the government to mandate they submit all the information to some committee and the committee making the labels on the companies behalf… inevitably variation from the created label (price increases and such) will be harder to implement.
It’s seems like it’s in their best interest to actually just do it themselves quietly… because the less noise they make about it the less eyes will be drawn to them when they inevitably fuck it up.

facts, would not want to see it either as its more likely to make a mess but telecom has been srs business for years. at this point it can be argued some of this is about stability and national security. better to have everyone connected than not, companies making this harder are going to make themselves targets.

Seems like not only should they be regulated, they should also be broken up and that the government should state an intent to introduce competition into the market. An industry regulator backed by legislation which demands equal access to infrastructure and transparent consumer pricing would go a long way.
