Normally I don’t have much time to watch movies, and for the occasional one Netflix is good enough. But once a coupple of years there is a specific one I want to see which is not on Netflix.
Normally I can find it on ThePirateBay, but sometimes it’s offline.
So my question is, how to get a movie like “Sing 2” in a easy way like I used on TPB now in 2023.
- Chozo ( @Chozo@kbin.social ) 72•1 year ago
If you wanna go really casual, there’s sites like https://movie-web.app which will let you stream most movies in decent quality.

hdtoday.cc bflix.gg fmovies.to
What I learnt the other day from this community.
- Caravaggio ( @Caravaggio@feddit.nl ) English8•1 year ago
This. You’d be surprised how much good stuff you can find on those and similar services. Once I learned about them, I practically stopped torrenting.
- Ilandar ( @Ilandar@aussie.zone ) English12•1 year ago
The quality is terrible, though. All of these sites rely on the same bitrate starved YTS rips. It’s why torrenting remains popular for people who care about presentation, because you have so many more options than just the absolute bare minimum.
- kostel_thecreed ( @kostel_thecreed@lemmy.ca ) English5•1 year ago
And how ass the buffering can be at times too. I’ve switched to stremio for the family, and torrent movies I want to see offline.
- tun ( @tun@lemm.ee ) English9•1 year ago
It is a hosted version of open source movie-web app
- kratoz29 ( @kratoz29@lemm.ee ) English8•1 year ago
This is stupidly easy, says someone who likes to watch quick and easy stuff with Stremio and Torrential.
- sndrtj ( @sndrtj@feddit.nl ) English2•1 year ago
I’m wowed.
- mister_monster ( @mister_monster@monero.town ) English26•1 year ago
I use torrents-csv https://torrents-csv.ml/ and find the movie I want and download it. I’m like you, I hardly watch movies, this is the most seamless way for me to do it.
- Black_Gulaman ( @Black_Gulaman@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English4•1 year ago

- kek ( @kek@discuss.tchncs.de ) English25•1 year ago
Would recommend Stremio with Torrentio plug-in, works great on Google TV
- atlasraven31 ( @atlasraven31@lemm.ee ) English13•1 year ago
Once set up, it’s the laziest way to watch something. Torrentio does have an issue finding torrents for specials and other extra video content.
- sylverstream ( @sylverstream@lemmy.nz ) English8•1 year ago
With realdebrid it’s even better :) But yes special content is hard to find, I still have to revert back to usenet for some content.
- nevernevermore ( @nevernevermore@kbin.social ) 4•1 year ago
well with premiumize it’s even better :) they cache usenet and DDL links too. I’ve had way more success with obscure titles on there than i did with realdebrid
- kostel_thecreed ( @kostel_thecreed@lemmy.ca ) English6•1 year ago
More information about this premiumize? First time hearing about it.
- sylverstream ( @sylverstream@lemmy.nz ) English5•1 year ago
I did some research and found mixed reviews. It’s also quite expensive. I also tried Uncloud via Onion but the couple of NZB’s I tried failed, probably out of retention, even though they were <1000 days old
Instead, I signed up for Easynews for US$36 for 1 year (via here instead of US$10 / month. Then I installed this Stremio plugin. Some of my shows were not on RD, but I can find them on Easynews. And the good thing is that I can also use it with my *arr + nzbget set up :)
@Black_Gulaman@lemmy.dbzer0.com you may be interested in this as well.

Thank you so much! i will definitely save this comment . I’ll try it when my RD subscription ends.

I’m a bit less happy as EN buffers a lot here. Could be my location. So please try before you buy.
- kostel_thecreed ( @kostel_thecreed@lemmy.ca ) English2•1 year ago
Thank you for this, I’ll look into this a little more before buying something !
- Black_Gulaman ( @Black_Gulaman@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English6•1 year ago
Go on, this interests me. as an RD user, I’m always interested in knowing that there is a better service.
- bdp1312 ( @bdp1312@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English3•1 year ago
How does one find stuff on usenet?
- sylverstream ( @sylverstream@lemmy.nz ) English4•1 year ago
I’ve got a lifetime account at nzbgeek. There are free sites as well, but most of them don’t have an API. I’ve automated it all with sonarr/radarr and nzbget.
- ciko22i3 ( @ciko22i3@sopuli.xyz ) English18•1 year ago
yts . mx
everything is organised great
no cam bullshit, everything is bluray or webrip
i think movies there are a bit compressed, but personally i dont even notice it
- Apeeksiht ( @Apeeksiht@lemdro.id ) English10•1 year ago
a better alternative for new movies is psa. wf
their quality is exceptional with small size.
- kostel_thecreed ( @kostel_thecreed@lemmy.ca ) English5•1 year ago
- I love yts because of the small sizes. I don’t care about remuxes like the data hoarders in this community.
- Ilandar ( @Ilandar@aussie.zone ) English4•1 year ago
Fair enough if you have no standards but don’t pretend it’s a choice between YTS and remuxes with nothing in-between. There is a very noticeable increase in quality just going from YTS to anything slightly larger.
- kostel_thecreed ( @kostel_thecreed@lemmy.ca ) English3•1 year ago
Oh, no. I’m not ignoring the other options, just wanted to make a clear example, as bad as it was haha. I just like small sizes since quality isn’t the highest priority of mine, just like how I love FLACs and cannot deal with 320mp3.
- ciko22i3 ( @ciko22i3@sopuli.xyz ) English1•1 year ago
can you recommend some of the websites that have those slightly larger versions? I would prefer if they are well organised like yts (multiple qualities/versions on the same page, cover pictures, ratings, good search…)
- Ilandar ( @Ilandar@aussie.zone ) English1•1 year ago
1337x and TorrentGalaxy are generally pretty decent. Compare bitrates for audio and video and take note of the names of the release group. You’ll start to develop a mental list of names to look for. In terms of films, I’d recommend looking for Tigole releases on 1337x as a starting point.
- PurplebeanZ ( @PurplebeanZ@lemmynsfw.com ) English3•1 year ago
The video is ok for the size, but the audio is terrible.
- blindsight ( @blindsight@beehaw.org ) English1•1 year ago
The audio is why I can’t stand YTS, too. It’s so compressed it feels like it messes up the sound mixing. I can’t hear dialogue in quiet scenes then my speakers blow out in loud scenes.
- Vlhacs ( @Vlhacs@reddthat.com ) English14•1 year ago
I use torrent galaxy, that seems to work pretty well.
Qbittorent to get the thing you want. Recommended to get a VPN while doing so.
Dump the file into a flash drive and plug into a TV. Or setup a shared network drive. Or set up a Plex server with a basic Music/TV/Movie folder structure , have Plex scan it, and stream like your other streaming apps.
Once I have downloaded it I can play it in VLC on my computer and choose the cromecast as the renderer which works great, the only thing not working are the subtitles.
- Notnotmike ( @Notnotmike@beehaw.org ) English3•1 year ago
Definitely would second Plex. Previously I just had an external hard drive with my library on it but that isn’t as accessible.
With Plex, you can easily get started just installing it on a personal computer and let it grow over time. I had mine on my personal computer for years before recently upgrading to a NAS and it’s top tier. Makes streaming to any device effortless and helps you organize your library

- mayonaise_met ( @mayonaise_met@feddit.nl ) English9•1 year ago
In my country torrent sites are blocked, so I use a search plugin for qBittorrent to find Linux ISOs. I don’t quite remember which one I use or how I installed, but it was quite simple. Google is your friend.
- kniescherz ( @kniescherz@feddit.de ) English7•1 year ago
Make sure to use a vpn when your country cares about this stuff. Its not fun to pay 800€ for one episode of the fucking walking dead. (Germany)
- 100794 ( @100794@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English2•1 year ago
I heard Germany is way too aggressive with this. I wonder what will happen if I were to travel to germany and download copyrighted material on my mobile data
- kniescherz ( @kniescherz@feddit.de ) English1•1 year ago
When you torrent in Germany from your home without a vpn its just a matter of time when you will get the letter to pay. On mobile you should be safe since afaik you share an IP with all the people who use the same cell tower, but this could be dangerous misinformation. Also the lawers are trying to get the easy money, I think when they see a tourist downloaded something they dont bother.
- max2078 ( @max2078@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English3•1 year ago
but this could be dangerous misinformation.
It is, one can and will be pinpointed using a timestamp and the IP address and the port. These information are always unique per user.
- mayonaise_met ( @mayonaise_met@feddit.nl ) English1•1 year ago
They don’t care about individual downloaders that much here and I genuinely don’t use it that much.
- Lemonyoda ( @Lemonyoda@feddit.de ) English1•1 year ago
So, how so you so it without Torrent then, in Germany? Usenet only?
- kniescherz ( @kniescherz@feddit.de ) English2•1 year ago
Use a VPN. Also I am only using private trackers which minimizes the risk drastically. But Usenet is also fine. When I still tried to get German content oftentimes you will find OneClickHosters though, but I only get english content nowadays, so the scene could habe changed.
- 100794 ( @100794@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English3•1 year ago
Why in the ass would you need a plugin for downloading Linus ISOs which are free and non-illegal
- kniescherz ( @kniescherz@feddit.de ) English11•1 year ago
Oftentimes anything copyrighted like warez, music and movies are called ‘linux isos’ to hide the fact that you are doing something shady.
Like: “I got a NAS with 20TB of Linux Isos to enjoy.”
- 100794 ( @100794@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English4•1 year ago
Oh. Okay good to know. But wouldn’t it be redundant to use something like this here in a piracy sub
- kniescherz ( @kniescherz@feddit.de ) English6•1 year ago
Sure. Buts its also an inside joke.
- nonearther ( @nonearther@lemmy.ml ) English8•1 year ago
I have a Chromecast 4k with Google TV which is android. So theoretically I might be able to install it. But I don’t need it very often. And to be honest on the 4k TV if possible I’d rather watch in 4k if possible. And it seems that with torrents often you can find a 4k version.
- sylverstream ( @sylverstream@lemmy.nz ) English1•1 year ago
I’ve got the same device, it’s awesome! I’m using stremio and real debrid and it’s great. I replaced the stock launcher and now have Stremio feeds on my home screen instead of all the default ads/crap in the stock launcher.
- Midas ( @midas@ymmel.nl ) English7•1 year ago
Genuinely? Find a friend with a plex server. There’s plenty of us out there with huge libraries and the automations setup but they’re barely utilised. Got any tech-savvy friends or peeps on Lemmy near you?
Like I said I only need it once every couple of years, this seems too ambitious. Anyway I’m in Korea and yeah, don’t know many people here yet.
- Midas ( @midas@ymmel.nl ) English2•1 year ago
Yeah I thought it may even be lower effort since you don’t do any of the administration. But maybe abut of a high threshold to find someone reliable.
- Technoguyfication ( @Technoguyfication@lemmy.ml ) English6•1 year ago
(Make sure you’re doing this all behind a VPN)
I don’t personally trust the free streaming sites. I torrent the bare mp4 or mkv file because I can just play it on my own computer without worrying about malware or being tracked.
There are multiple mirrors for The Pirate Bay, just search it on your favorite search engine and they should come up. At least one of them always works. There’s also sites like 1337x, among other free trackers. (RIP RARBG, you’ll always live in our hearts)
There’s also private trackers that are a lot easier to get into than others.
- u/lukmly013 💾 (lemmy.sdf.org) ( @user224@lemmy.sdf.org ) English5•1 year ago
If you don’t need to download it, there’s himovies.sx. There used to be option to download, but maybe they had some issues with that.
Na, I’d rather watch it on the TV so I guess the easiest option is to download it.
- u/lukmly013 💾 (lemmy.sdf.org) ( @user224@lemmy.sdf.org ) English2•1 year ago
OK, I checked it for you. In Firefox you can open inspector and then head to Network tab and there get the .m3u8 playlist URL. I’d recommend to check in VLC if it works. If playing it in VLC is all you need, good.
Another option is to download it using youtube-dl. I tried it and it started the download, so that will probably work too.
Ah nice, didn’t realize yt-dlp would also work on other websites. But now I’m only 8 minutes away from the 4k version so I’ll use that one this time.
- theoldman ( @theoldman@infosec.pub ) English1•1 year ago
If you don’t need to download it, there’s himovies.sx. There used to be option to download, but maybe they had some issues with that.
Does this website use public torrenting in the background to give the files or do they host the actual file? I’m asking because if former is the case, a leak in VPN, will reveal your real IP to other peers (including copyright trolls). I know kill-switch but that is not completely safe and binding client is not possible when using such websites if they use torrent protocol.
- u/lukmly013 💾 (lemmy.sdf.org) ( @user224@lemmy.sdf.org ) English1•1 year ago
It seems they just use file hosts, although they still do recommend using a VPN.
- heimchen ( @heimchen@discuss.tchncs.de ) English3•1 year ago
