Remember kids : compatibility doesn’t mean it will run great

Portability means making sacrifices. I dont need 4k 200fps on a hand held on the bus, I just want to be able to jump in when ive got some down time and im not at my main machine.

Yeah. If it’s actually playable, that’s awesome. I’m preparing myself to have to deal with streaming or playing at my desktop, though.

FSR 2.2 and the upcoming FSR 3.0 release should help.

I tried Skyrim on my Linux Desktop a while ago and it ran like ass. I couldn’t push more than 45 FPS even without mods in 1080p with a 6650 XT. I know their engine is garbage with newer hardware but that seemed still ridiculous.

Skyrim runs absolutely fine on the deck, you might have an issue with your Setup.

lol I think it’s 30 on the switch, but it’s reasonably stable and that hardware sucks.

An issue that only makes this one game run like ass?
- Rykzon ( @Rykzon@discuss.tchncs.de ) English2•1 year ago
I guess? Maybe running out of VRAM and using RAM, that’s generally a huge issue.

Vanilla Skyrim does not need more than 8 GB of vram. lol
There’s plenty of games that are way more demanding that Skyrim that run much better. If this was the bottleneck then it would affect a lot of other games.- Rykzon ( @Rykzon@discuss.tchncs.de ) English1•1 year ago
So do you just want to complain about skyrim? The game runs fine on my and many others deck and runs great on good hardware. I have a 6700xt + 5800x3d on my desktop and it runs great without any issues (GE Proton 8.3) as it does for many others aswell. The game is fine, if it does not run on adequate hardware under linux you might have to troubleshoot on your end.

Yes, obviously. I literally said so didn’t I? Oh no, wait, I didn’t and you just completely made that up. Anyway, have a nice live but this is getting too moronic now.

The deck runs at 800p maximum and has an FPS slider to cap the framerate so you can get more juice out of the battery.
Capping it to 40 FPS on Steam Deck would actually be an Ok thing to do if it means you can run the device longer while playing portably. So under those standards you wont notice it running bad at all. Its funny how it works, but for some games the experience feels better on the Deck because of how good it is at scaling down everything. Also sometimes the lower native resolution makes things work smoother than they would have otherwise.
