These are Gould’s Wattled Bats, rescued from a roof that was being replaced.
It’s from the Instagram account microbatsofmelbourne.

Step Father and I are working on some Bat boxes to lure in the bats for mosquito control. I Absolutely Love pest and recycle control critters. Possum bros, Dillo bros, Spider bros, lizards, frogs…but the frogs could do a better job of stfu…so loud at night

Yeah, the house I grew up in had so many frogs that you couldn’t watch TV or make a phone call at night, it was like having the worst tinnitus every night. Frogs are cute, but that was too much!

I wish I could touch them, they look so velvety soft.

Meanwhile those of us living in areas where there is rabies are cringing and shrieking “noooooooo, do not touch!!!”

You’re not supposed to handle them in Australia either, due to Australian bat lyssavirus:

Is it not risky to pick them up due to the possibility of zoonotic disease?

How are they so docile, though? I’m not familiar with the course of action for sedating wild bats and it would be hard to believe you could just reach up and grab one

Maybe they’re babies?
