Heresy_generator ( @Heresy_generator@kbin.social ) 106•10 months ago“How am I in this war?” Musk asks Isaacson. “Starlink was not meant to be involved in wars. It was so people can watch Netflix and chill and get online for school and do good peaceful things, not drone strikes.”
Musk, transparent as ever, makes sure to tell his biographer that it’s about peace, man, and has nothing to do with his love of authoritarian regimes.
Sinnz ( @Sinnz@feddit.de ) 52•10 months agoNothing more peaceful than supporting an authoritarian war criminal 🥰
reverendsteveii ( @reverendsteveii@beehaw.org ) 20•10 months agoOnce the killers have done all the killing they want, peace becomes paramount. Once they’ve stolen everything they can steal, then theft becomes a crime. A man with a gun kicks in your door, starts eating the food from your fridge and fucks your wife. He’s doing good peaceful things and if you resist you’re a warmonger.
Uniquitous ( @Uniquitous@lemmy.one ) English10•10 months agoMaybe if he had any actual knowledge instead of just buying shit and slapping his name on it, he would know that the Internet was originally DARPAnet and was designed for expressly military purposes prior to being co-opted by capitalists.
lolcatnip ( @lolcatnip@reddthat.com ) English54•10 months agoWhy are enemies of the United States allowed to own national security infrastructure?
owlinsight ( @owlinsight@lemm.ee ) 61•10 months agoThey are allowed to be president and run for re-election too so I wouldn’t hold my breath
gjoel ( @gjoel@lemmy.ml ) 2•10 months agoI don’t think Musk qualifies, being South African though.
Pelicanen ( @Pelicanen@sopuli.xyz ) 7•10 months agoThey were talking about Trump.
Grant_M ( @Grant_M@lemmy.ca ) English34•10 months agoArrest this treasonous scumbag. Slava Ukraini!
AphoticDev ( @AphoticDev@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 28•10 months agoAs much as I despise Musk for being a total piece of shit, this isn’t treason. Technically, we aren’t even allies with Ukraine. The argument could certainly be made that this works against the interests of the United States, but that alone isn’t treason because it isn’t a crime for citizens to oppose the US, especially when it’s private property the US is being lent. Because at that time, the US hadn’t signed a contract with Musk yet.
If he did this again, then it would be a breach of contract, but still wouldn’t be treason. People being charged with treason is very rare, because it’s a such a high bar to meet.
Grant_M ( @Grant_M@lemmy.ca ) English28•10 months agoThis guy aided the Kremlin. He’s helping russians in their genocide of Ukrainian children. Fuck that pile of shit and lock him up.
AphoticDev ( @AphoticDev@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 19•10 months agoI agree. I’m just saying, he’s not guilty of treason.
Grant_M ( @Grant_M@lemmy.ca ) English2•10 months agoI never claimed he was. But he’s guilty of being an ally of russia
rbesfe ( @rbesfe@lemmy.ca ) 9•10 months agoarrest this treasonous scumbag
You literally just did
Grant_M ( @Grant_M@lemmy.ca ) English1•10 months agoI accused him of being treasonous – which he ABSOLUTELY IS. End of discussion.
jormaig ( @jormaig@programming.dev ) 5•10 months agoThis still makes him an enemy of Ukraine though
agent_flounder ( @agent_flounder@lemmy.one ) English33•10 months agoArrest when?
acastcandream ( @acastcandream@beehaw.org ) 33•10 months agoMr. Free Speech wants to decide what we can and can’t use our ISP’s for eh?
sculd ( @sculd@beehaw.org ) 32•10 months agoSeriously the US needs to take Starlink away from Musk. Its a national security issue at this point.
ChrisLicht ( @ChrisLicht@lemm.ee ) English15•10 months agoIf you own a new Tesla purchased since he took over Twitter, I suspect you may start having some increased tire and paint bills. I could see it becoming a trend; feels like the kind of thing kids could get into.
Joker ( @Joker@kbin.social ) 7•10 months agoFuck that. We don’t need some Tesla version of that Kia challenge shit. I happen to drive a Tesla that I bought when Elon was still cool. I would never buy another thing from him (for a variety of reasons, many of them related to the car), but I’m still stuck with what I have because it’s a bad financial decision for me to change the car now. He already has my money and it pisses me off every day. The last thing I need is some anarchist, vigilante twat slashing my tires to “teach me a lesson”. Go fuck up Elon’s shit instead of taking it out on people who just might feel the same way about him as you do.
ChrisLicht ( @ChrisLicht@lemm.ee ) English1•10 months agoElon’s shit is untouchable to the kids. New Teslas are not.
You use his charging network?
Joker ( @Joker@kbin.social ) 4•10 months agoSo maybe don’t do it at all instead of taking it out on people who didn’t do anything wrong?
ChrisLicht ( @ChrisLicht@lemm.ee ) English1•10 months agoI’m not promoting it. Just wonder if Musk is getting dangerously close to becoming a generational bête noire, and his enablers with him.
CanadaPlus ( @CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org ) 13•10 months agoHoly shit! I’m guessing fighting (even in an EW capacity) for a US adversary is actually a criminal offence, or something similar.
Thanks for the original source, OP. It’s hard to trust just a headline these days.
vandermouche ( @vandermouche@lemm.ee ) 12•10 months agoAs an oligarch, he stands with the other Russian oligarch who need and benefit from this war. If the rouble is at an historical low, the ones who have money in other currencies have an historical purchasing power in Russia…
Uniquitous ( @Uniquitous@lemmy.one ) English12•10 months agoSure would be a shame if Starlink got nationalized.

NaN ( @Bitrot@lemmy.sdf.org ) English3•10 months agoThe US would be forced to embargo the US.
Krauerking ( @Krauerking@lemy.lol ) 12•10 months agoMan the old geezers really think they still have absolute control over everything and don’t realize the ultra wealthy they have enabled are getting and have been operating far beyond the control of the western governments.
God the fucking narcissism of those in charge to think that they still rule with perfect wisdom. I’m waiting for when these companies that the US built leave and take up residence with new hot authoritarian countries and leave misery poverty in their wake.
Singular rich people should not have this much say.

Uniquitous ( @Uniquitous@lemmy.one ) English9•10 months agoIt makes right-wingers sad.
NotAPenguin ( @NotAPenguin@kbin.social ) 3•10 months agoWhy do you think wanting a proper source makes someone right wing?
I’m not American and not right wing.
NotAPenguin ( @NotAPenguin@kbin.social ) 5•10 months agoHave you seen what kind of website it is?
In this case it was just a summary of a cnn article, linking directly would be better. smellythief ( @smellythief@beehaw.org ) 1•10 months agoIn this case then, that makes sense. I was just wondering if you had something against the site generally. Is it trash generally? Not defending it, just curious.
