redditReallySucks ( @redditReallySucks@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 13•9 months agoThat’s actually the best
Bene7rddso ( @Bene7rddso@feddit.de ) 7•9 months agono, the best is YYYY-MM-DD
redditReallySucks ( @redditReallySucks@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 7•9 months agoThat’s what I use but the dashes aren’t the most important part
Like A Duck ( @likeaduck@programming.dev ) 4•9 months agoIts the same
Pxtl ( @Pxtl@lemmy.ca ) English4•9 months agoHyphens matter. Standards matter. ISO8601 4 lyfe.
McBain ( @McBain@feddit.ch ) 4•9 months agoYYYY MM DD is better for directories.
vlad ( @vlad76@lemmy.sdf.org ) 1•9 months agoMine is worse
darklamer ( @darklamer@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 6•9 months agoIs that not the format that’s actually used in the US? I mean, it’s utterly insane, but a lot of people really are used to having the components of the date in random order.
Still ( @Still@programming.dev ) 7•9 months agonope, we use the format that matches the words spoken so Friday September 15th, 2023 would be Fri 9/15/2023 sometimes the year is shortened
Fushuan [he/him] ( @fushuan@lemm.ee ) English24•9 months agotake into account that your “words spoken” isn’t necessarily how other say it. For me, saying 15th of july of 2023 sounds way more natural in english.
blackn1ght ( @blackn1ght@feddit.uk ) 6•9 months agoI wonder if they have a special rule to use dd/mm/yyyy on the 4th of July.
bingbong ( @bingbong@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 1•9 months agoNope, it’s “July 4th” or “the 4th of July” though and they’re weirdly interchangeable
darklamer ( @darklamer@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 9•9 months agoIn what way is the MDY you write about any different from the YDM in the screenshot? The important thing, that they’re in random order, is the same for both, right?
And as for spoken language, it’s not like any normal person would say “September fifteenth” now, is it?
Faera ( @Faera@feddit.nl ) 14•9 months agoTurns out people in different countries and regions say the date differently as well. I find it funny how everyone always assumes their experience is the universal one.
September Fifteenth and Fifteenth of September are both commonly used depending where you are in the world.
Still ( @Still@programming.dev ) 3•9 months agothey are not in a random order they are in the same order as when spoken in proper American english
and yes normal people do say September fifteenth none of this fifteen September British nonsense
Daeraxa ( @Daeraxa@lemmy.ml ) 4•9 months agoLiterally nobody in Britain says ‘fifteen September’…
ScreamingFirehawk ( @ScreamingFirehawk@feddit.uk ) 4•9 months agoWhen is independence day?
Still ( @Still@programming.dev ) 3•9 months agous independence day is on July 4th, don’t really see how this is relevant to the conversation?
Pxtl ( @Pxtl@lemmy.ca ) English4•9 months agoWe must know: how many digits is the year? And when they’re displayed later, do they use slashes or hyphens? I want to really breathe in the awful.
el_bhm ( @el_bhm@lemm.ee ) 4•9 months ago- 1970-1999 - 4 digits.
- 2000+ - 2 digits.
- No separators
lugal ( @lugal@lemmy.ml ) 4•9 months agoPeople argue about 2 and 4 digits years. Make it 3 and everyone is annoyed.
023-16-09
el_bhm ( @el_bhm@lemm.ee ) 4•9 months agoThank you, Satan
The year is 4 digits. This is just an age confirmation dialog asking for your birthday on a sketchy website, so I’m pretty sure the date won’t be displayed later.
macniel ( @DmMacniel@feddit.de ) 1•9 months agoWell its the fluent variant. In the Year YYYY on the DD(st/nd/th) Day of MMMM
