This is great news!
The fewer “probable cause” loopholes cops get with which to invade privacy and ruin lives, the better.
Especially ones that can easily be fabricated, such as scents (or which can come from other sources, like skunks or nearby residences).

Marijuana is also legal in Minny so it might smell like weed because they might have weed.

Does it matter though? They will just use some other “perceived infraction” leading to being profiled and pulled over. “Hey, you were swerving a little in your lane”, “you waited a bit to long to use your turn signal”, “You were following a little too closely”.

Those others can be fought with dashcams, body cams, etc. Cops want to use a smell as PC specifically because there’s no way to prove someone didn’t smell something. Of course there are still ways for them to manufacture PC but getting rid of one of those ways is still a good thing overall.

I mean, baby steps of progress is better than no baby steps or losing ground. Easy enough to be pessimistic, but too much leads to defeatist attitudes. If it mitigates even a wee bit, it’s still a little victory worth at least a tiny toast imo.
