Performing Nazi salutes has been illegal in Germany and Austria since the end of World War II and is punishable by law with prison time.
Flashbert ( @Flashbert@feddit.de ) 63•9 months agoThis ia huge clickbait sadly. It’s some random small oktoberfest, where some drunken germans maybe doing the Hitler greeting.
I’m not saying it’s okay what they do, but by far not world news. This would be maximum local news if at all.
Deathcrow ( @Deathcrow@lemmy.ml ) 15•9 months agoWell they are also playing “Erika” which is a right wing dog whistle, though maybe not as uncommon in these circles, as outright Nazi salutes
Edit: Also curiously most people, myself included, never find themselves in danger of accidentally heil hitlering even when blackout drunk. Seems to become a more common occurrence in Saxony though.
_s10e ( @_s10e@feddit.de ) 1•9 months agoWell I’m thinking the same, but then I’m not sure where to put this video (ignoring the sound track) on a scale from drunken singing to obvious Nazi salute.
Maybe i don’t know enough about Bierzelt culture. If they were singing Hölle, hölle, hölle or Atemlos, would you notice the (right) arm in the air? The arm movement seems unnatural (if the intention was signing with arms in the air), but this could still sort-of pass as not 100% Heil Hitler.
The band chose the song, for sure, that’s questionable. The event organisers should not allow this to happen. But the guests, should they leave? Sit down quietly and wait for the next song?
I could be in that tent and not recognise the song. Not my kind of music.
I could see people innocently copying the movement of others. It may be a tent full of Nazis, scary, but the video does not proof this.

Did we watch the same video? In the Twitter thread I saw the lady right in front was doing multiple Nazi salutes in a row, very excited about the song. Don’t think there’s any ambiguity what she was doing

Showroom7561 ( @Showroom7561@lemmy.ca ) 48•9 months agoShould be easy to catch and jail them, if photos and videos are being taken all over the event.
Germany should learn how Americans were able to catch so many Nazis during the Jan 6th insurrection. 😂
Lhianna ( @Lhianna@feddit.de ) 29•9 months agoIn Saxony. Unfortunately I’m not even surprised anymore.
atlasraven31 ( @atlasraven31@lemm.ee ) 11•9 months agoProud neo-nazis or drunk idiots?
BolexForSoup ( @BolexForSoup@kbin.social ) 53•9 months agoIf you’re a drunk idiot “jokingly” doing nazi salutes as an adult in Germany, you’re just being a nazi. At best nazi-adjacent.
Jables ( @Jables@iusearchlinux.fyi ) 16•9 months agoI think you’re severely underestimating how stupid some people can be without malicious intent. Not that I’m justifying their behavior in any way, but it’s possible they’re just really stupid.

_MusicJunkie ( @_MusicJunkie@beehaw.org ) 17•9 months agoBeing really stupid is a requirement for being a Neo-Nazi. Stupidity is not an excuse.
ValiantDust ( @ValiantDust@feddit.de ) 14•9 months agoAnd I think you are underestimating how much of a deeply ingrained taboo the nazi salute is for the typical German. You are right, some people can be very stupid, especially drunk. But no German who has not been in some way socilized among nazis would be stupid enough to ever casually do a nazi salute. You just don’t do it.
The only exception I might allow besides actual nazis are very stupid or drunk (or both) teenagers trying too hard to be edgy. And even then most people would find it hard to believe that they’re not at least right leaning. Nobsi ( @Nobsi@feddit.de ) 9•9 months agoThere is no “nazi but just ironically”
kjr ( @kjr@kbin.social ) 3•9 months ago@atlasraven31 Possibly drunk proud neo-nazi idiots.
brewbellyblueberry ( @brewbellyblueberry@sopuli.xyz ) 10•9 months agoThat was a disappointing Where’s

Reminder that germany never underwent denazification; there are still nazi members in power to this day.
float ( @float@feddit.de ) 11•9 months agoCould you name one?

aha, of fucking course it’s a feddit de user, of course. Strike three. God I can’t wait for domain block.

And get sucked into a stupid debate? No thanks. When someone comes up to you with debate pervertry, the correct response is to instantly block and not waste energy on them.
Zabjam ( @Zabjam@lemm.ee ) 1•9 months agoTIL that requesting proof for outlandish statements is debate pervetry. But I guess I take your advice and will block trolls like you
adr1an ( @anzo@programming.dev ) 3•9 months agoI disagree with what you’re implying. FYI, I’m a migrant in Germany, follow dach@feddit.de to practice the language and it’s my understanding that most of the posts there are inclined towards progressive or leftist ideals. Also, I chose migrating here instead of the US because it felt like it has less fascists. Of course, that’s just my humble world view.
float ( @float@feddit.de ) 2•9 months agoCan’t discuss with these people. Anyway, you’re right. Feddit is definitely a leftist community which is one of the reasons I’m there. Germany surely has a lot more extreme right wing people which is just sad to see. The media is responsible for big parts of that.

Lhianna ( @Lhianna@feddit.de ) 7•9 months agoWhile you are correct in the fact that the denazification process was mostly a joke you should still try to do some maths here. Someone who was at least 20 at the end of the Hitler regime (in order to be part of the party etc.) in 1945 would be at least 96 today. Our politicians are old, yes, but they’re not that old.
