one interesting thing worth noting is that Greg Abbott is such a zealot for this that he’s often found himself fighting against his own party; many Texas Rs are rural and ““school choice”” + defunding public schools would completely fuck over their constituents. so you have an unusual coalition of some of Texas’s most conservative politicians and Democrats that’s been able to curb a lot of this to this point
