What lemmy android app do you recommend? I have too many problems with jerboa. My problems with jerboa:
- When I write a pm to someone it sends that message to myself
- Language of the interface is Polish (my first language) and I can’t change it to english (at least on the version that I’m on rn)
- Scrolling is very buggy (it stutters a lot)
- Often when I want to make a comment it doesn’t send it and I have to go to my pc an rewrite my comment to be able to send it
- It doesn’t play gifs on the feed by default, I have to open the image to play the gif
- It doesn’t play gifs in the comments at all and there’s no way for me to play them
- There are no embeds for videos (not sure if there’s any mobile app that has that)
- etc.
What I’m looking for:
- An app with developed UI/UX
- Obligatory dark mode
- Something that resolves my problems with jerboa
Any recommendations or apps that I should follow the development of?
MangoPenguin ( @MangoPenguin@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English43•1 year agoLiftoff is coming along nicely
This big “+” in the middle at the bottom of the app is a bit annoying, is there a way to make it smaller and move it down like the rest of the buttons are?
Swisside ( @Swisside@feddit.ch ) English14•1 year agoLiftoff seems to be open source. Pretty sure you can ask the dev about this feature.
I didn’t find a way to customize that part so far.
White text is also way too bright in amoled mode so I will make an issue for this and making the “+” smaller.
o_o ( @o_o@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English11•1 year agoSecond this, liftoff is pretty amazing and they look to be integrating kbin the future as well.
PeachMan ( @PeachMan@lemmy.one ) English6•1 year agoJust installed, I’m liking it so far. It’s a little laggy and stuttery, but hey, like all other Lemmy apps right now it’s in beta. The navigation feels better to me than other options. Thanks!
kortwotze ( @kortwotze@lemm.ee ) English28•1 year agoWait for this app, if you are on android. It once was among the best Android apps in general and a very popular Reddit client. It’s going to be great!
squip ( @squip@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English10•1 year agoI used sync for almost a decade and I can confirm it was the optimal reddit experience. When the developer comes out with sync for lemmy I am immediately using it.
kortwotze ( @kortwotze@lemm.ee ) English5•1 year agoSame. I bought it in 2014 and it has been my most used app on my phone since then. 🙂
Fuck u/spez
ElephantInTheRoom ( @elephantintheroom@vlemmy.net ) English21•1 year agoI think it’ll take some time until these apps become that andvanced. Most lemmy apps are in a pretty early stage of developement and still highly WIP.
Some third party reddit apps seem to be planning on moving to lemmy, so maybe we’ll see something better coming around the corner in the near future.
nottheengineer ( @nottheengineer@feddit.de ) English13•1 year agoBoost, my favorite one, didn’t get updated for quite a while and got a nice update pushed out after the API changes were announced. Kind of heartbreaking to see that effort destroyed, but the dev has announced that boost for lemmy will be a thing. The UI of boost is one of the best I ever used, so I think that the lemmy version will be great even early in development.
ElephantInTheRoom ( @elephantintheroom@vlemmy.net ) English3•1 year agoYeah, devs like these have the perfect kind of skills considering UI/UX developement to get this done well.
FrayDabson ( @FrayDabson@vlemmy.net ) English20•1 year agoWefwef.app install as a PWA it’s amazing
Netto Hikari ( @NettoHikari@social.fossware.space ) English17•1 year agoIt’s a turn-off for me that this is made up to look like an iOS app. I’m using an android phone and it’s kind of weird to have the sudden switch between paradigms.
Dumbkid ( @Dumbkid@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English10•1 year agoAs someone who’s only used android, I cannot see what makes this look like iOS so I’m fairly happy with it.
Netto Hikari ( @NettoHikari@social.fossware.space ) English1•1 year agoPlease don’t get me wrong, I’m not disliking the project. I just think the design isn’t that great. That’s all. Glad it works well for you.
nihilist_hippie ( @nihilist_hippie@lemmy.ca ) English10•1 year agoWefwef is open source, it would be cool if someone could fork it and make a version that looks more like an Android app experience.
FrayDabson ( @FrayDabson@vlemmy.net ) English4•1 year agoIt’s on their roadmap to make an android interface. https://github.com/aeharding/wefwef
FrayDabson ( @FrayDabson@vlemmy.net ) English5•1 year agoYeah I understand. the good news is that it’s on their roadmap to make an android UI/UX. https://github.com/aeharding/wefwef
GrossGhost ( @GrossGhost@kbin.social ) 3•1 year agoDoes anyone know why wefwef tells me my credentials are invalid when I try to login to my Lemmy.world account? I’m copy/pasting from a password manager, so I know I’m not typing it wrong.
FrayDabson ( @FrayDabson@vlemmy.net ) 2•1 year agoCase sensitive. I’ve noticed this with some other apps too.
For me to log in I need to put all lower case. Despite my name having two upper case letters
GrossGhost ( @GrossGhost@kbin.social ) 2•1 year agoUnfortunately this didn’t work for me. It’s not a huge deal as I’m really just waiting for sync for lemmy, but at this point I’m more curious why it isn’t letting me login. Pretty strange.
I was searching for an android app but I guess I will give this web client a shot.
FrayDabson ( @FrayDabson@vlemmy.net ) English4•1 year agoThere are a number of android apps in development and idk which is best right now. But I have been very impressed with this PWA
SilentStorms ( @SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English2•1 year agoIts surprisingly impressive for a web app, when installed its hardly noticable that its not native.
Jcb2016 ( @Jcb2016@kbin.social ) 1•1 year agoLiftoff, Connect, Thunder and wefwef , I think wefwef is having issues right now. still alpha but its really nice. i think devs are trying to stop hitting the api rate limit or something. wefwef is just like apollo but for android and ios
numbscroll ( @numbscroll@kbin.social ) 1•1 year ago@Martineski boost for wefwef, it’s filling the Apollo-sized hole in my heart. For Kbin, following the work of @dansup with great interest… Pixelfed is such a smooth app, I have tempered expectations but high hopes for his Kbam app.
GataZapata ( @GataZapata@kbin.social ) 1•1 year agoDoes it not support kbin?
FrayDabson ( @FrayDabson@vlemmy.net ) 1•1 year agoSadly not. I setup account on vlemmy for now.
bladewdr ( @bladewdr@infosec.pub ) English20•1 year ago+1 for Connect.
SHITPOSTING_ACCOUNT ( @SHITPOSTING_ACCOUNT@feddit.de ) English17•1 year agoI’m using Connect. It’s far from perfect but nowhere near as broken as Jerboa.
PolarisFx ( @PolarisFx@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English5•1 year agoI used Liftoff for a bit, but Connect has been the closest to the Reddit app I’ve used for a decade.
Beemo Dinosaurierfuß ( @toastus@feddit.de ) English1•1 year agoRif?
PolarisFx ( @PolarisFx@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English2•1 year agoRelayForReddit but they’re all similar in experience I think, it just depends which app you found first.
iokus ( @iokus@beehaw.org ) English1•1 year agoI’m also using Connect; I really appreciate how customizable it is.
apigban ( @apigban@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English17•1 year agoI started with jerboa, then I’m now trying out connect.
I’ve customized both to feel likewhat I have with RiF (just text, no cards, amoled black).
I think I’ll stay for a while with connect for a while.
ElCrusher ( @ElCrusher@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English5•1 year agoThanks for the recommendation! I just started using Connect, instead of Jerboa, and I really like it so far. It reminds me of RiF is Fun a bit and so far it’s much smother than Jerboa.
RobinRoswell ( @RobinRoswell@lemm.ee ) English15•1 year agoCurrently trying out Thunder and it seems nice
LedgeDrop ( @LedgeDrop@lemm.ee ) English3•1 year agoI tried handful of apps and Thunder gives me that baconreader feel (a lot of content compress on a single screen)… and it amazingly snappy.
Notnotmike ( @Notnotmike@beehaw.org ) English1•1 year agoI like the look of Thunder but it crashes the main screen to often and I can’t seem to find where my profile is. Wild that there’s a button on the navbar that’s only used to logout and see your name
oldfart ( @oldfart@lemm.ee ) English12•1 year agoIs anyone else afraid of making a typo in Jeroba because there’s a 50/50 chance teh backspace key will fuck up a few previous words? It’s the only app where this happens on my phone but I haven’t yet seen anyone else complain
nodiet ( @nodiet@feddit.de ) English3•1 year agoIt’s a known issue. Unfortunately it’s a bug in a library they are using, so the only thing they can do until it is fixed is to disable autocorrect (which also doesn’t seem to work atm). I’ve encountered the same issue in another app about 6 months ago, so I don’t think it will be fixed anytime soon.
Azzu ( @Azzu@lemm.ee ) English9•1 year agoI use Firefox for Android. It works perfectly, everything is usable, good UX, has dark mode, and the app even works for other websites!
You can even install the ublock extension to block all ads & trackers in opened links, or use it to block large images by default to save data. And you can install the tampermonkey extension to add this userscript I made, which rewrites all links everywhere (not only on Lemmy) to always point to your home instance. It helps a lot with subscribing to communities and in general makes browsing the web and finding Lemmy links nicer.
I honestly don’t see the reason why you’d want to use a separate app.
HeavyRust ( @HeavyRust@lemm.ee ) English2•1 year agoI use Firefox on mobile too. UI could be a bit better (like more separation between comments) but it’s nice and seems to work better than the apps.
Thanks for the useful script!
Mewtwo ( @Mewtwo@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) English8•1 year agoConnect and Summit are the two I’m using.
Raoul ( @raoul@rammy.site ) English3•1 year agoI’m trying Summit since this morning and like it
kid2908 ( @kid2908@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English8•1 year agoI use Liftoff and wefwef
DataDreadnought ( @DataDreadnought@lemmy.one ) English3•1 year agoThird for wefwef, gotta embrace good web apps when you see them.
Wander ( @Wander@yiffit.net ) English1•1 year agoIs it me or is it missing an option to sort by ‘top’?
DataDreadnought ( @DataDreadnought@lemmy.one ) English2•1 year agoIt doesn’t have a top filter for the Frontpage but inside each post/comment it does.
Lumun ( @Lumun@lemmy.zip ) English1•1 year agoSame here, they both work well
Paranoid_pizza ( @Paranoid_pizza@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) English7•1 year ago+1 for firefox for android.
The Quuuuuill ( @Quill7513@slrpnk.net ) English5•1 year agoConnect is also a touch buggy, but I find it much more usable
Kyiro ( @Kyiro@lemm.ee ) English5•1 year agoThe PWA of the lemmy site is honestly good enough
