The Greens say the government should have voted for a ceasefire.
Dutton said Australia should have instead backed Israel and the United States by rejecting the motion entirely.
vividspecter ( @vividspecter@lemm.ee ) 5•8 months agoYeah, it’s a mess. Probably the most sensible response given the US being such a close ally, but also not wanting to oppose the ceasefire too strongly (given Penny Wong’s comments previously in particular).
⸻ Ban DHMO 🇦🇺 ⸻ ( @unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone ) English3•8 months agoSBS have an article that actually explains the reasoning which I thought was pretty fair. link
No1 ( @No1@aussie.zone ) 4•8 months agoDunno how accurate the article is, but the reason seems to be:
“US voted no”
I haven’t read the article and I’m not following the situation at all, but that tends to be the reason behind most things. If the yanks say no to something, most of the world is generally expected to follow suit, or at the very least not oppose them
abhibeckert ( @abhibeckert@beehaw.org ) 2•8 months agoMaybe read the article. There’s more to it than that.
No thanks. It’s the same shit every time
