Decent mildlyinteresting sub on Lemmy but it feels really barren out here (reddit refuge here). Can’t find a sub for my breed of dog or my make of car. Looking for some suggestions for solid Lemmy subs to make me feel like there is something going on here.
Thx u.

They’re all over the place.
Niche, or very specific communities haven’t taken off yet because things are still building. There’s not been a need for a c/fordfestivamods because it takes millions of users to find ten people that even own one of the damn things at this point.
Breeds are a little less specific, but so far the generic dog c/s have been good enough.
But here’s the real thing. Why don’t you set one up? Seriously. Instead of waiting for someone else to do it, be the guy! You know your dog breed, you know your car. Start the c/ and guide other people to them! Help build this grand experiment that is the fediverse :)

Dude, you’re basically part of the first wave of the Reddimigration. What was your expectation? You either need to be patient or even better, be the change you wanna see and start those communities yourself.

It’s a second wave actually but I agree.

Yeah, I’m part of the second wave purely because I never received the acceptance emails when I tried a few weeks ago. I use a custom domain for my email, so I’m guessing the site automatically flagged it as a bot request. But now registrations on the most popular servers are closed entirely lol

Best bet at the moment is to look for a sub about dogs, or even just animals, as opposed to hoping for a vibrant labradoodle community. Or cars, instead of The Honda Civic Users Club.
The entirety of Lemmy & Kbin is around that of a medium sized subreddit at the moment.
I’ve decided to ditched the subscription option, it feels largely pointless for me aside from expressing support at the moment. The whole thing can be managed as one would a subreddit using the local/all/hot/new/timescale/active options, the text search and alerts system.

It’s going to take some time or you can create the community. July 1st just arrived. So people are still trying to figure out what to do about Reddit. Not everyone was going to migrate to Lemmy July 1st when 3PA shut down. It’ll happen over time. In the meantime we can all do our part and contribute to the different communities now and create content so more people will want to join.

Just browse ‘all’ to find stuff you like and you can make the communities you’re missing if you’re passionate and keen. It’s a very new and growing group here getting off the ground.

Have you seen my list of migrating communities?

Don’t go so niche so quickly. I’ve enjoyed the broader groups here.

Try this: https://lemmyverse.net/communities
Part of the issue is that, despite some explosive growth in the last month, Lemmy / Kbin are still fairly small (especially when compared to Reddit). If you came here from Reddit expecting the same breadth, you’ll be disappointed, unfortunately. However, that’s not a forever problem. Rather than looking for subs for very specific interests (e.g. a specific make of car), try joining subs for cars in general, where you’ll find more active discussion, and posting topics related to your make there. Alternately, try creating the specific subs - but keep in mind that the user numbers just might not support it (yet). We’ll get there.
I don’t know much about lemmy.fmhy.ml - but if it’s a newer or smaller instance, it could be that it hasn’t yet learned about all of the other instances / communities out there - you can solve that problem, too, if you find the communities you’re interested in at the link above, and search them out and interact with them on your instance. This will make that content start showing up in your instance’s All feed (for all users).
