Hi Folks!
Recently the two apartments above us were broken into, and therefore I want to install some surveillance cameras. I didn’t have huge networking needs before, so I just have the crappy router my ISP provided and an unmanaged switch. Now, however, my needs have changed and I won’t run those cameras until I’m 100% sure they don’t have access to the broad internet. I’m familiar with the concept of VLANs but I’d appreciate some guidance of how to set things up.
My Router does not support VLANs, it only has a built-in guest network. Do I need to replace it (or maybe pass-through mode as we have cable internet) for a pfSense router or similar? Or can I get away with a managed switch with L2/L3 capabilities? It is important that my cameras can access my homeserver for frigate or Synology for their nvr (not decided yet) and I think those inter-vlan routing capabilities are handy for future proofing myself.
How does your setup look like? Appreciate your answers!
Cameras don’t access NVR, NVR accesses cameras.
