JackGreenEarth ( @JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee ) English25•8 months agoWhy would Google code for its opponent’s OS first? Not that I use Chrome, anyway. Firefox has had that feature for ages.
GissaMittJobb ( @GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml ) English5•8 months agoThe reason is probably really mundane, like the iOS Chrome team and Android Chrome team not working in lockstep or something of the sort. Like the iOS team planned it for 2023 Q4 and the Android team for 2024 Q1
AItoothbrush ( @AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip ) English24•8 months agoWow how horrible… continues to use firefox
agame ( @agame@lemm.ee ) English5•8 months agoAnyways.
👁️👄👁️ ( @mojo@lemm.ee ) English12•8 months agoThe technology just isn’t there yet
TheMadnessKing ( @TheMadnessKing@lemdro.id ) English8•8 months agoChromium Forks like Cromite and Brave have this feature already.
botorfj ( @botorfj@lemdro.id ) English1•8 months agoI’ve been using cromite for months! how did I not know about this??
Ⓑⓡⓞⓚⓔⓝ ( @Justly0250@lemdro.id ) English4•8 months agohow did I not know about this??
The first thing I do whenever I install anything is to go through the settings. To turn off trackers, analytics and explore the accessibility features.
Haveanicedayman ( @Haveanicedayman@lemmy.ml ) English6•8 months agoOmg, why not for Android too? It’s way easier to reach bottom than the top.
synae[he/him] ( @synae@lemmy.sdf.org ) English5•8 months agoI didn’t know bottom-address-bar was a thing, but I hate it
cobra89 ( @cobra89@beehaw.org ) English4•8 months agoIt’s amazing, and there’s a reason Firefox has had it as the default for years.
Polar ( @Polar@lemmy.ca ) English4•8 months agoI hate having to reach to the top of my 7" phone to type in an address.
ThenThreeMore ( @andthenthreemore@startrek.website ) English1•8 months agoWhy?
synae[he/him] ( @synae@lemmy.sdf.org ) English3•8 months agoMy initial gut reaction is that it’s ugly 🤷♂️ apparently it has its admirers, but I’m definitely not one of them
SkepticElliptic ( @SkepticElliptic@beehaw.org ) English1•8 months agoIt’s a quality of life improvement. You wouldn’t worry about the looks of a screwdriver if it’s better than your old one.
ThenThreeMore ( @andthenthreemore@startrek.website ) English1•8 months agoIt’s just about usability. Top of phones are hard to reach nowadays, so the more UI elements that are towards the bottom the better!
Suburbanl3g3nd ( @Suburbanl3g3nd@lemmings.world ) English4•8 months agoMy old windows phone did this and I loved it. I’m surprised its taking Google this long to do this. Not that I use chrome but still
Wrongleverkrunk ( @Wrongleverkrunk@lemm.ee ) English4•8 months agoEww
Swarfega ( @Swarfega@lemm.ee ) English4•8 months agoBeing at the bottom makes more sense on today’s larger phones. I’m just so used to it being at the top it’s hard to get used to it being at the bottom of the screen.
Wistful ( @Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de ) English3•8 months agoIt never made sense to me, UX wise, to be up on handheld devices (one handed ones especially).
jetsetdorito ( @jetsetdorito@lemm.ee ) English2•8 months agofunny enough… it was a feature flag to move it to the bottom on android for a while before but they removed that too
