• I’m all for voting in younger representatives but I would never in a million years vote for a 22 year old. Or a racist for that matter. But the most shocking part to me is his age. Like, 22 year olds have not been alive long enough to develop any kind of meaningful wisdom. I’m only 36 so my wisdom is only just developing and I look back on all the 22 year olds I knew when I was 22 and holy shit do not put any of those people in charge of important decisions.

    • He’s not elected directly, but via a list. That is, the party has a list of candidates and according to the number of seats they get in the election, the candidates fill in the seats.

Since the AfD was kind of on a rise and probably got more seats than candidates, they’ll put almost whoever on this list.

Is it just me or is that sentence mangled a bit?

Regardless, I’m glad we’re seeing more and more consequences for these types of politician’s actions. Sadly most of the time, there’s either insufficient evidence or too many systemic issues to convict.

Like the recently leaked police chat, filled to the brim with antisemitism and nazi admiration was deemed “partially satire” and as such covered by freedom of art.

A German far-right politician has been arrested for allegedly displaying Nazi symbols, after “Sieg Heil” was heard coming from the headquarters of a fraternity to which he belongs.

He was detained hours before he was due to gain immunity as an Alternative for Germany (AfD) MP when the parliament was sworn in on Monday afternoon.

Police issued an arrest warrant for him on Friday and he was tracked down near Stuttgart, in the state of Baden-Württemberg, on Monday morning.

Police in Würzburg last month raided the premises of the Teutonia Prag student fraternity after neighbours complained of hearing shouts of “Sieg Heil” from inside.

Prosecutors told the BBC he was accused of collusion or suppression of evidence, as he was trying to influence other members of the fraternity to change their statements.

Katrin Ebner-Steiner, the leader of the AfD in the Bavarian parliament, denounced what she termed a “politically motivated” prosecution.
