Yeah, the only thing I only used twitter for was getting status updates from things. Blizzard’s cusrtomer service for instance would tweet if they were having server issues and so on.

        • It’s interesting how some people tout Lemmy and Mastodon cross posting, but all it does is confuse me. I like mastodon for short things like news as you said, but when lemmy comments get mixed in I don’t know where to start

    • It’s only really useful for aggregation of PSAs (in my opinion) and I don’t need to be on one of those sites since if it’s important enough someone will repost the tweet to a platform I use, or it will get reposted in a “news” article. In other news though, I also find it horribly annoying when I click on a news article to discover that it’s just screenshots of a bunch of tweets.

  • I’m just tired of all these companies ruining their platforms. Facebook jumping in as a Twitter replacement is going to go exactly the same way Facebook did. I don’t feel keen on using it.

Enshitification has really sucked the past while

  • The launch has had a warm response online, with one person telling the BBC they saw Threads as a “much-needed competitor” to Twitter.

One person said that? Okay, thanks BBC…

I’m also curious if it’s accurate to report ten million have joined when (I believe) every Instagram user automatically gets a threads account.

To be fair, I only downloaded and joined Threads to see if it was as bad as Twitter. I stopped using Twitter years ago (my account is probably gone due to the great purge) and I’m less likely to use Threads because it’s related to my Instagram account and my Instagram account is related to my Facebook account.
