The Tick (the live action reboot by Amazon) is on Netflix. We just finished the first season. It’s so good. I’d forgotten what a fantastic writer Ben Edlund is. For these characters, anyway; I don’t actually know what else he’s done outside this property.
Didn’t realize it was called Roman. It made seeing this disorienting: surely they know that Romans didn’t have satellite technology. Do they think that Romans are still around? Is Italy launching the telescope? Do people refer to Italians as Romans. And so on.
Thank goodness she just happened to have the camera set up and recording.
Militaries all over the world start feasibility studies on it about every five years. Strangely, as soon as they get to the human-trials stage, the report, without fail, abruptly terminates.
We get eye drops by mail from a local specialty vet pharmacy. For our first few deliveries, the mailer contained one plastic bag with a prescription bottle and a second baggie with two green mints. Or rather, I assume they were mints. They were green like mints, but the bag wasn’t labeled. I don’t think they were individually wrapped, but I don’t exactly remember. I’m sure they were thank you mints, but I also couldn’t quite bring myself to eat an unlabeled item from a lab. They don’t do it anymore, and that makes me kind of sad.
Hellboy: imperfect, but good. I know he made a sequel, but I don’t remember how good it was. I’ll have to rewatch it, but I seem to recall being somewhat disappointed. I’ve never read the comics; did Hellboy spend all his time in those almost triggering or being the apocalypse?
Episodes 1-4 of The Sandman, Season 2: fine story and execution (so far). The utterly ridiculous imitation of Zoolander’s Blue Steel keeps unintentionally making me laugh out loud.
Finished Spider Noir early this week (Swype’s first interpretation was Shower Now 🫠). These days, I always get nervous when I approach the end of a season-long storyline, but this one worked. So often they don’t. Nic Cage got one episode to go full Cage and I think that was the right amount.
We watched in color since we both agreed that the black & white looked too sharp. It’s a modern piece in a noir setting; in color, it is exactly what it claims to be. Palette-shifted to B&W it looks like a fake. Maybe with some treatment, it would have played differently. The color was almost perfect, imo. The palette wasn’t too bright, although I might have preferred slightly less realistic hues in order to mimic colorized versions of old movies. But then again, maybe not–I would have to see it to know if it was what I truly wanted.
In the end, the only part of the show I actually disliked was that it had too many commercials (Amazon Prime 😖).
They don’t make them like they used to: none of my dining chairs have survived that treatment.
I remember watching this episode after school and being utterly shocked (and pleased, of course). This was my clearest “can they show that on TV??” moment.
I got sick yesterday. Pretty sure it’s just a cold because I have a craving for junk food and for some reason that’s always one of my symptoms. I actually bought potato chips this last Sunday! I can’t help wondering if my body knew, that it was a sign, even though the only really unusual part about it was that I gave in and made the purchase.
The first four entries in my feed this morning seem to be about being bad at your job. I hope the universe isn’t trying to tell me something…
It’s like when you finally learn the trick of something you’ve been practicing for years; it immediately becomes your favorite thing ever and you just do it over and over again, relishing every iteration for the simple reason that you’re able to do it. Shame, for him (and his wife), that he never felt like he had really nailed lillies.
That’s a good point! This came up in some reading about orthopedic surgeries (which involve a frightening amount of sawing and hammering), however, and so I didn’t initially see the other possible interpretation.
Not too mention the implication that lemurs know what malaria is. What else have these scientists been hiding from us???
Of course one of the richest corporations on the planet is making this show. Especially apt is that it’s a tech company with a biomedical branch. I’m sure all of the show’s themes will be true to the book.

What is the blue puff attached to several of the ceilings? In Image 25, for example? When everything is so drained of color, it really sticks out.
And did someone at the agency have to photoshop every exposed light fixture to add sparkles?
I have a Cidoo V87 (that one is TKL, but they have all kinds) which I’ve enjoyed a couple of years now. I don’t know if of their models are compatible with Via/QMK, but mine is. The biggest downsides (which aren’t that big to me, but might be to others) are that the LEDs are south-facing and “Via compatibility” for the V87 refers to Via v2–not v3, as far as I can tell.
Btw, I’m not sure if Cidoo is the brand or a product line. The brand might be Epomaker–both names seem to come up together.
No kidding? Well, I know he didn’t create Firefly, that was Joss Whedon. I know I said Edlund was a great writer (and he is), but I feel it’s a little different for The Tick since the characters are his creations; he definitively knows how to write them.
As for Warburton, it took me a while to get used to him in that first remake because I was skeptical that a live-action version could be good. It did suck me in, however, right before it was cancelled (because of course it was 😞). I was surprised to see Patrick Warburton in the credits of the last episode we watched. It seems he was still involved in the second remake, but as a producer.
