Try to have the company run for a week without the janitor and 1 week without the CEO, and everybody would tell you who’s doing the most important job.

Don’t be discouraged by the starting difficulty and ridiculous crafting chains (laugh at how ridiculous they are instead). There’s plenty of quality of life in there to make it less painful.

I would suggest to start with the 2.9 beta instead of 2.8.4, they improved a lot of the painful things at the start of the game.

Btw if you don’t like combat absolutely play in peaceful and change configs to make it less dark or straight up cheat items in if it becomes too grindy for you.

It’s a 2000 hour journey not a sprint and there’s plenty of content even if you cheat in resources or (tier-appropriate) items.

A similar modpack I am playing and I can reccommend is Star technology. It’s a gregtech-based skyblock mod. It’s very nice if you think GTNH is too painful.

If you want to get started in game dev I suggest you to start doing game jams!

I second the commment saying that you should see it as a hobby first, because getting money out of it is going to be very, very hard. Only let it grow into a business if a game idea really captured you and an audience, and be prepared to spend a ton of time in marketing instead of coding.

I think that if you are not having fun and you are not passionate about the game you are making, the games will also be less fun to players. Give it a try but don’t burn out and don’t take it too much as a job you have to complete!

There is some research proving that there are harmful effects in social media, so the proposal is not completely without merits, but I think it negatively affects both teenagers and adults alike.

IMHO they should have banned social media but not social networks. A lot of harm is coming from the algorithmic content pushed on people and social feeds are now 90% ads and shills pushing an agenda, while people are there mostly to “not miss out” the friends’ activities.

They could have fixed the problem at the root and tampered the propaganda machine, instead this proposal is likely going to force a terrible implementation of age or identity verification. It might not be too bad if they standardize on some privacy-preserving zero-knowledge-proof solution, but I find that somewhat unlikely.

Another problem with the current proposal is that, if they really wanted to make it age-restricted, a more sensible option would have been to start the ban from a much younger age (I don’t know - 5? 8?) increasing it 1 year per year indefinitely, instead of suddenly removing access from people that already have all their friends there. The current implementation will make the EU very unpopular with all the teenagers, and they’ll likely still find ways to access it anyway.

Wine/proton are not emulators, they run the code directly on linux, but using some fancy tricks to rrimplement windows dlls into linux native code. If someone embeds linux code in the windows executable you have the same privileges of your user and at tgat point you can be infected with a linux virus.

It’s not likely today because windows is much more popular, but once linux becomes popular enough to be an attractive target you will need to be as careful as on windows.

Yes, you are probably better off trying to replicate it without reinstalling, I guess this is trying to cater to AI techbros, or people that miss windows copilot (somehow?).

It’s also a weird choice for that distro to base off Debian… Debian is famous for being stable, but AI stuff is usually considered “too old” after just a few months.

One tip though, if you try to replicate it using openclaw or any similar tool, run it in a VM without it having access your personal files. It has almost no safeguards, so you are putting your entire pc (and email mailbox / online accounts) at the mercy of AI hallucinations… One wrong command and it’s all gone.

You can run llama.cpp on your real PC and have the VM connect to it.

I played splitgate 1 and 2 since the beginning (and I am still checking it out sometimes).

My feeling is that they launched too early and they wasted too much time on their battle royale mode, probably trying to attract compulsive spenders kids.

Linux got added shortly after launch, before BR got added if I remember right, which is fair for a beta/early access. But IMHO it went out of beta way too quickly, before they fixed many of the complaints. When they realized they fucked up, they went back into beta and tried to relaunch later (weird move, and probably turned off many of the remaining players).

IMHO the game problem is that they made it revolve a lot around BR, with not enough map variety for normal arena modes. They clearly wanted BR to be the mode everyone plays most. The arena maps had a distinct lack of portal surfaces, and BR was also weird with a limited amount of portals available, which defeats the game’s selling point. The fans of the game also wanted an arena shooter, not another fortnite.

Nowadays arena is much better with more maps (they brought back some of the splitgate 1 maps), progression is no longer locked in strange ways and more modes are there.

It’s a shame they failed so badly that they had to lay off people.

It’s a fedora atomic distro. I like the isolation of apps and it being “almost impossible to break”, and I want to give a serious try to what looks like the future of OSs.

I tend to fiddle with the OS a lot, and this isolation limits me to flatpak and distrobox. It is a big limitation, but is perfect if you want to have a reproducible, isolated environments to develop code, but installing a system package is just too easy. Basically you need to spend time and know what you are doing to workaround this isolation, which makes sense to me.

Bazzite tweaks everything to be gaming-focused (it also ships with steam preinstalled, for example). The other fedora atomics (silverblue/kinoite) are just more “generic” and not gaming-focused compared to bazzite, but they have a similar setup. I think bazzite just customizes them.

You can also switch your entire system between them, with just a CLI command, with the ability to rollback too. So once you are in an atomic distro, you can switch without too much pain (in theory, at least).

Get a wireless controller, a cheap projector and project the screen on the ceiling, so you can look straight up without bending your neck! I know it sounds a bit absurd, but I actually had a similar setup for watching movies (I tied the projector to the back of the bed post)

You can implement an agent loop in any language, and modern languages can do everything that lisp can, so there’s nothing magic in lisp. At the end of the day lisp is just another weakly typed functional/procedural language.

Personally I didn’t find lisp that much elegant due to the loose typechecking and the excessive parentheses, but the macro system allows some very terse and smart (and mind-bending, as you said) solutions, which do feel pretty cool when they work fine.

IMHO it’d be probably better to give your agent access to a python interpreter because it’s much more prevalent in the training data than lisp…

I self-learned lisp last year using the old SICP book, but I do consider myself a fairly expert programmer, and I felt that book was a bit hard at the end of it.

IMHO the key difference of lisp’s eval wrt python’s eval is that it takes in input a parsed expression (a lisp list) and not a string. In lisp though you don’t have to use eval much, because the macros allow you to transform the expressions from your programs directly (take in input parsed code, return a different code structure to be executed). The quote and quasiquote functions are there to make that easy!

I don’t know javascript enough, but in python you’d have to use eval and use some kind of parsing package crazyness if you wanted to implement a similar macro system!

When I tested I few years back, games were running significantly slower and everything was “glitchier” on Wayland. Because of this I did stick with x11 and was dreading its deprecation, but I should really give wayland another try!

If you are into exploring programming languages or writing interpreters, lisp is quite an interesting language. I can also see it working quite well if you need to embed a small scripting language somewhere, because it’s so minimal and easy to pick up, but also very powerful if you go into the metaprogramming side of it.

I don’t see many reasons to use it for anything else though.

TL:DR: A contributor with write access got angry that a friend got kicked from a matrix channel, and this triggers a chain of events, ending in him trying to break the unstable(cooker) version of distribution. No other damage and they are working to restore stuff now.

Eircodes identify not only an address, but are more detailed, going down to identifying even a single apartment in an apartment complex, so I’m not sure if there’s a searchable field for that in open street maps (one map feature should be associated with multiple eircodes). I’m a beginner in OSM editing, so maybe some more expert mappers can help you with that.

Generally, I think they’ll be quite difficult to add to everything, especially because the official website ( https://www.eircode.ie/ ) has a limit of 15 searches per day, after which you need to have some commercial contract to become a partner and get the whole dataset instead ($$$). It’s really something that should have been handled by the government as a public service, but as usual it got privatized by a company. There’s also no consistent numbering between neighbors, so you can’t really guess their eircode without looking it up (for each house/apartment…).

It would be amazing if people started adding them in OSM, but I think it’d be pretty hard to manually map a lot of them with all those those limitations…

It seems strange that it only happens when you run the updates, but I did see some cheap routers randomly restarting before when under heavy load, so it’s not impossible. You should have been hitting the same problem with other downloads or steam though.

I’m unsure on what it could be, ans I don’t have many other suggestions other than “try a new router”, unfortunately :(

Is the connection with the router that drops only on your pc, or is it the whole router going down? You can check this by having your phone connected to the wifi, without 4G/5G data enabled, while your pc is running updates. Try browsing the internet on your phone while the updates are running and see if the pages load. If your phone loses internet at that point too, then your router actually crashes and likely has a problem. Not much to do here except changing the router.

If it’s just the wifi of your pc that drops the connection it might be that the wireless card has some compatibility issues (I have an old macbook air with the same problem - I workarounded it by buying a USB wifi adapter…).
