I genuinely think that tying feminism to this particular person and case is detrimental to the cause. It gives people arguments they can back up with evidence and, honestly, feminists should wash their hands of Amber Heard and let her disappear into irrelevance.

I find this whole “she was small and weak and he’s big and powerful” genuinely infantalising and kind of misogynistic tbh. Yes, he had more money and was the bigger star. But she was up-and-coming and had millions to her name. She wasn’t a housewife who gave up her career and education to support her man and raise children. She was and is privileged af.

Women are not automatically victims. Heard isn’t, at least not for the outlandish WWE shit she claimed. Women can be villains, they can be evil, and we should believe them when they show that to the world.

I recommend watching it because she has embellished the story to a point where she can’t keep it straight even for the duration of being on the stand.

I didn’t know much about the UK trial, but a quick round of research told me that the lawsuit had Heard as a witness in a system where witness statements are not questioned, and even then she had to amend hers six times to work around situations where another witness’ statements contradicted hers. No evidence on Heard’s credibility was seen. The trial found the the Sun was not defaming Depp because they trusted Heard, but any findings about abuse are solely based on Heard’s words. //edit: And the trial was not centered around domestic violence, it was a defamation case between Depp and The Sun.

I prefer to trust my own eyes and ears, and the trial was enough to show Heard for what she is. And then there is the audio from Australia that didn’t make it into evidence because one of the bodyguards had passed away, and he was on the tape (but couldn’t be asked about it, so it was blocked by the court) where you can hear Heard stomping around and wailing. Just as the butler testified. Funny, that.

I don’t know why you’ve tied your self-image to whether or not Heard is amazing or shitty, but unfortunately she’s publicly said enough to disprove her own words. No amount of you defending her will change that. Don’t waste your time, she’s not worth it.

Honestly, I debated replying to the previous comment, but figured it wasn’t worth the time.

I’ll just recommend to anyone curious about this topic to just go ahead and watch the trial on YouTube. If nothing else, watch Heard’s own testimony. Just watch her explain and listen to her whole story in her own words. Don’t trust an editorial, go straight to the source.

I’m a woman, a feminist, and a rape survivor. I watched the entire trial because I was down with Covid and needed something to focus on. I had no real knowledge of the case ahead of time as I don’t keep up with Hollywood news. But having seen the entire thing? I genuinely despise Amber Heard because her lies make it that much harder for victims to be heard and believed. Her name does not belong on that list and it annoys me that leftist (usually though not so much feminist) spaces tend towards fully black-and-white view of who can be an abuser and who must be the victim.
