This mindset always frustrates me.

Of course it was performative, all public art is performative. This is no different than tv promoting the “traditional american family”, or statues “honoring the troops”, or memorials, or any other art promoting propagandized values.

But life imitates art. Even if the intent was insincere pandering, it still has an effect on how people perceive their society. We should want our propaganda to reflect our values. We should want statues of MLK and Harvey Milk instead of Robert E Lee and Jefferson Davis. We should want rainbow streets and pride flags in public spaces. We should want their agenda to match our values. We should want the next generation growing up in a society that shows its support for marginalized people, instead of nationalism.

I don’t think the common thread is that they are “secretly gay”.

But I do believe one of the most common threads is self-loathing/self-hatred and emotional repression, which they then over compensate for by forcing draconian policy on others who are more comfortable with themselves.

Drug use, infidelity, the need to justify a lifetime of privilege, over valuing the 1950’s propagandized ‘traditional American family’, an uncountable list of problems with women, and yes, even repressed sexuality, are just some of the many root causes of their self-hatred.

I agree with your point that many people reveal latent homophobia, or at the very least a willingness to use it to disparage others, when discussing closeted LGBTQ Republican’s. And that doing so is just frankly fucked up. But I don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water here. Much of their awful policies are because they are secretly something.

Don’t get me wrong, I got the Saturn on launch and played quite a lot of Sonic R. I’m not saying it is unlikable.

But from a “relative quality of game design” point of view, putting it on the same level as 2, Mania, and Adventure 2, seems crazy to me.

On the other hand, if the list is just based on how much you enjoyed each game, then don’t mind me. Just an old man yelling at clouds.

Lindsay was the first name that came to mind. On the level of “If we met and you told me your name and my ADHD got the better of me and I forgot it as I often do. But then later that week someone asked me, gun to my head, what your name was. I’d take my chances with Lindsay”.

I’m not trans, so it’s not really my place to draw the line here. But I’m tired of these “jokes” too. Even if they’re genuinely meant in good humor with no ill intent (which often they aren’t), they normalize bigotry, reinforce stereotypes, punch down at a marginalized community, and treat people like punchlines. They’re also just not funny. The slurs make it worse. It should be called out. We should want a kinder world.

How to confront it depends on the setting. It sounds like you’re mostly seeing this in videos and comment sections?

First, protect your mental health. Trolls and bad-faith actors never tire, but you will. Prolonged fights only let them paint you as emotional or unable to take a joke. They’ll drag you into the mud and turn a decent instinct into “comment section drama.”

Second, changing their minds shouldn’t be the goal. They almost never admit fault. I aim to “smother the flames” instead. Keep responses short and flat. Don’t sound offended, don’t invite explanation. “That’s a slur tbh” works. I often go with “bullying is kinda lame bro.” If they pull the “it’s just a joke” card, I might go one layer deeper with “didn’t sound like one” or “you might want better material.” After that, I stop responding.

The goal isn’t to win. It’s to suck the fun out of the thread. The people who would’ve piled on now have to sit with the fact that they’re being publicly bigoted, and the attempt to make the rhetoric feel normal gets undermined.

Whatever approach you take, I respect it. If we stay silent, we let them dictate what’s allowed in the public forum.

On the other hand, the article indicated that this “devastating boycott” is basically just Canadians. So I have to ask… Canadian’s… you all doing alright?

100%. Honestly, some of my favorite games are boring ass games.

If golf went inclusive and solar punk tomorrow, I still wouldn’t play cuz I’m really bad at it. But I also would have no more complaints.

The great thing about the Souls series is that frankly you can start at any game, and play in any order.

You will probably wind up with a bias towards a particular order after playing all of them. But it’s not like, Mass Effect or something.

If you are lore oriented, I’d play 1 through 3 in order blind, then read the shit out of wiki’s, the play them again with guides that help you go on a ‘lore tour’. But like, you could also just do whatever in any order and still have a great time.

But also, I’ve been clamoring for this feature, because I do have just one screen that I want to swap between multiple desktops and going through the effort of setting up “show on all desktops” for every window I open on every other screen is a pain in the ass.

In what I assume will come as no surprise… he did not. He speedran disingenuous, short-form culture war “debates” to farm clickbait engagement content for his media company until the day he died.

His arguments were never made in good faith. He wasn’t concerned with understanding other points of view, or even convincing his interlocutors of the validity of his beliefs (not that there was any validity to begin with).

His only concern was content generation.

I actually adore this idea even without the added bonus of pissing off Nazi’s.

But now I just want to skip far enough into the future where this character gets her own spin off. And if it could ideally be done similar to the Punisher MAX series, I’d really appreciate it!

Gotta respect her attitude. It’s a role that will get hate and backlash no matter how good or bad it winds up being.

And honestly, I’m rooting for the film. Liked Woman of Tomorrow and Superman (2025) quite a lot.
