The claimed difference is that AT Protocol offers more robust account migration between instances. Literally, that’s it, that’s the only claim they make besides some technical implementation details about how their data is structured differently.
The actual difference is that Jack Dorsey is a neofacist who didn’t want to use a protocol that he wasn’t in complete control of. Not to say that it’s necessarily bad, poorly made, or worse than ActivityPub, but it’s hard to accept that it’s a protocol built in good faith, rather than as a tool to crush our little corner of the web.
