  • For RP, bards and clerics/paladins. I love the versatility that bards bring, between my gnomish puppeteer looking to create a show no matter the circumstances and the Orc Fighter/Bard who bashes his wardrum with the same club he bashes heads with. Clerics and paladins offer a built-in relationship to the setting via their faith/code and can be fun subversions of what you expect with just a little meddling.

For thematics, ranger. I grew up in woods and mountains, so playing my dangerous boyscouts is a great wish fulfillment of a self-insert. Couple that with running non-magical variants or reflavoring the magic as skills and knowledge makes it feel perfect.

Realistically, I am a DM and have been for years, so I am at the whim of the party. If they want to hire a guide or invite an NPC they find in their travels along, I get to play whomever catches their fancy for a bit. I have been playing an underleveled goblin rogue for a bit as a result in my own game.
