Can you recommend some?

Thanks very much for the heads up on this. I try to get most of my apps from F-Droid, but there are a few I still need to get from Google. In a worst case scenario, like if Aurora can’t fix this or there isn’t something else like Yalp (wait…Yalp?) how will I be able to download gplay store apps? I don’t even have a Google account. If I had used Mrs. Swann’s G account and it got deleted, I’d probably have to spend the rest of the morning picking up all my teeth off the floor…

I’ve certainly done plenty of this in my time, but it didn’t make me feel particularly good about myself at the end of the day. Some employers I was more happy to screw over than others.

I’m probably being too simplistic here as usual, but the solution seems to be in plain sight: falling office occupancy? Lack of affordable housing? 🤔 Of course landlords are probably still waiting to see if businesses come back before they have to spend a dime on rennovations. I might suggest government incentive$ to landlords, except that I suspect this would be a giveaway to people who are already quite wealthy.

This awakens my inner cheapskate until I remember that I’m happily paying for tutanota and mullvad, and that that’s what (hopefully!) eliminates their need to spy on their users and monetize all your data. Indeed. And yet it’s amazing how easy it is to get sucked in to something not even worth arguing about.

I confess to trying and then leaving lemmy.ml in a huff because I allowed myself to get dragged into an argument with some asshole. I came back (to Beehaw) when I heard about a potential reddit exodus, and thought I’d give it another chance.

The state I’m in, thankfully, has an assault weapons ban. If the corrupt and illegitimate SC strikes down all assault weapons bans, I really hope that our Governor will have the stones to stand up to them and say: no, not here, not ever. Remember, the SC can make decisions but can’t enforce them; that’ll be up to President DeSantis if he wants to start Civil War II.

Newer reactors are designed to be cooled by other methods such as, IIRC, liquid metal. Water-cooled reactors were, again IIRC, originally designed for nuclear submarines. Watch the documentary if you have an hour to kill, it’s really interesting!

Indeed! (But before I make my various pronouncements on PODs, I believe it was you I had an exchange about Zola with earlier? Well, the comments seem to have disappeared! Not sure why 🤔, but anyway . . . ) Unfortunately for me though, our closest local indie bookstore seems to be in its death throes, and our local Barnes & Noble of course just seems to have lots and lots of nothing interesting. And so (for me anyway) this means ordering books online most of the time, which means not knowing what I’ll get when they arrive. Two pro tips for the POD hater that I’ll share with you: bookoutlet.com has lots of interesting cheap remainders that are almost never PODs, but even if they are, they’re so cheap it won’t matter. Also, the kind folks at The Strand in New York told me that any book on their site that is listed as being “In Store” is 99.99% likely to not be a POD. You can also email them and just ask, and they’ll check for you. I’ve gotten in the habit of contacting publishers before I order their books to see whether or not they’re POD (and some won’t even tell me!), which is kind of a pain to say the least.

And if could bother you once more (and hopefully for the last time today!), I can’t seem to access and subscribe to https://lemmy.ml/c/tutanota . . . ? With some of the other lemmy.ml communities, I wasn’t waiting long enough for the search to find them, but it can’t seem to find tutanota.
