Natural disasters

Why don’t we let the fucking courts decide who is and isn’t guilty instead of pouring unnecessary public scrutiny onto an already difficult process?

How much “considering” can you do when your employee has given a softball interview to a modern-day Oswald Mosley?

Public transport is one of the only ways teenagers (among many other vulnerable groups) can get some independence in a very car-centric society. You’d be fighting an uphill battle trying convince people to exclude kids from the public transport system.

Working on curing childhood cancer is emotional because it’s something that we as a society value collectively but clearly aren’t compensating the work enough. Why should we pay a pittance to people who have 5+ years of training under their belt? Is it simply because they’ll make more in the future? That sounds like a pretty exploitative system to me.

It’s not surprising: Southwestern Sydney wakes up earliest because they have to, the journo probably thought it was Bondi because they’re an eastern suburbs yuppie, and the “article” is a shameless ad for an iced coffee company. Don’t post this dogshit.

I could also be wrong but I think for major construction projects the state government gives out the permits.

Field hockey is our best kept secret. We have some of the consistently best national teams in the world and yet I challenge you to name our national teams, let alone their players.

Bolognese with garlic bread

I think their point is that it’s not that Centrelink is designed around the assumption that people are welfare cheats but rather it’s designed to discourage everyone as a cost saving measure.

A 16 or 17 year-old earning 90$/day shouldn’t pay ANY tax IMHO. As a teenager I and my classmates weren’t using roads, the hospital system, the courts, or most of the facilities that public funds go towards anywhere near the extent that we use them as adults. I hope I can pay it all forward when I get a full time gig given how much public money I’ve been directly involved in spending.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds his personality annoying in some way I can’t quite put my finger on. I suspect it’s just the culture clash between my quiet Australian upbringing and his bold and brash New York personality. I also strongly agree with you that he fights the good fight and he fights it well.

Tiled roofs can be easy to fix especially if you have spare tiles, but you can also do repairs with silicone and/or flashtac. You’ll find that the two main difficulties are accessing the roof and finding the source of the leak. If you’re handy and willing to take on the (not insignificant) risk of getting on your roof you could consider doing it yourself, but otherwise you should get a professional to have a look at it.

😆 Western Australians wish Perth was the capital. At least you know your Australian cities
Look, I volunteer to respond to natural disasters. This will be very useful. Don’t confuse preparedness for tragedy for planning to enact atrocities. You undermine the trust in systems that are absolutely necessary in times of great need.
