  • Check out Minetest if you’re looking to switch. 100% open source Minecraft clone. Available on every major OS including Linux and BSD. Supports local single player and multiplayer servers, creative and survival modes, a thriving mod and addon community, written in C++ as opposed to Java. The only real things it doesn’t have are the trademarked Minecraft assets, like Creepers, Ender whatevers, the Nether, etc, only because they’re literally not allowed to have those.

    • I don’t know about the other stuff, but at least the nether can be added through one of the many mods. Minecraft players may also be interested in the Minetest game Mineclone (or Mineclone 2) which attempts to replicate Minecraft as much as possible.
