Had an interesting day, yesterday I watched a pretty cool YT of Danny Elfman, he’s old and weird and awesome and so talented. But watching him gave me the confidence to be older and weird too. I’m just miserable if I wear beige and be “comfy” and be my “age”. I like to have some style, I like to express myself, have fun, wear black even. So today I bought black and stylish stuff, including a cute jumper with embroidered stars and moons and a grey cashmere top . Felt good. :)
100% i’m a 50 yo trans woman who used to be a bit of a punk. Then I tried to be normal and that just didn’t work. Hard to fit in to the norm when you’re so not normal in the first place.
Now I have an almost completely new wardrobe and I’m kinda trying to merge the two a bit and look like something kinda wierd some of the time stylish at other times. Helps that I have a lot of wigs for this bald old head and moved back into the city, but being visibly trans feels fucking great honestly. It supposed to be clunky for a few years anyway.
I didn’t fit into the punk scene either honestly, but I was a part of it for a long time regardless and the people in it were a lot better than in the dance / nightclub scene I moved onto for professional reasons that’s for sure. I found my tribe eventually but I realise now nothing is how you want it to be really and every community has it’s fucking annoying insecure gatekeepers. I’m glad you enjoy your people of course.
Being a punk doesn’t have to mean hanging out with other punks of course, for me it’s always been a attitude and this has never changed regardless of how I chose to look.
it’s an interesting thing getting older, it’s like we aren’t supposed to be fashionable or fun anymore , there is pressure to become nothing or dress like a Brighton lady
It’s strange, the sentiment that can be perpetuated. On IG I often see posts of people living their best life 40+ and so on in clothes they just rock, which I adore. Whatever anyone wants to wear, if it makes them happy, so be it. (Some people are far too interested in others.)
I thought, “Danny Elfman, that names familiar” so I looked him up… I’ve been listening to him for decades and didn’t know it! Not bad for a 70ish year old.

I’m over 60 , have long blue black hair and have a totoro handbag 😂
Goals! Stay weird please.
will do 😺
I’m sorry, but no body gets to retire from being a punk. Being a punk is for life!
Seems to be huh? I can’t be what I’m not despite trying to be normal hahah. Thanks for the affirmation <3
That’s the best but though! When you don’t fit in elsewhere you fit in there, and it’s just… honestly it’s fucking great!

Edit: Love me some blue/black hair.
Wear what makes you feel comfortable or try something new if you wish. Just don’t go nude, pretty sure that’s an arrestsble offense 😛
